Hi Guys, Thought i'd strip down the Trident RDA and have a quick go at making a new coil for it. Can't be that difficult right !!! Well I used a needle from an ink jet refill kit and went at it, took it off and held with tweezers and fired it with my storm proof lighter. well i be damned it stuck together and looked OK. came out at 2 ohms, broke one of the leads screwing the center post down (it cut it off) but had just enough of a leg to still re make contact. cotton wool wick. Whaddya think, best photos i can do without faffing about. Hope ok. Tobes.

Thanks all, Maybe might I ask a question please? My wick is drying out from the middle to the ends. Yup, I even managed to torch one in the middle but the ends were still juicy. Is this due to ? too much wick, too thick, too little wick, not thick enough, too high a heat, coil to small / big ? ? ? ? it's going fine. A bit harsh but airy draw and I'm not used to that. This is the first proper morning I've played with it. I re-wicked the coil ionian sent with it a few times, but have found it very harsh all round. I didn't use it, or test any of my samples last week / weekend because my flavors all went potty and I am only just starting to taste my vape again. Must say though, I tried the RY4 in a clearo last night and got taste back. yay. Quite nice stuff. I expect steeping will improve but only about 2ml left, so will be resigned to the dripping collection (ie nearly empty bottles) once i get this rda thing all sorted. Tobes.

The coil should dry out from the middle to the ends, as that's where it's getting hot - but if it's not then getting resaturated, it must be that the wick is too tight - too much cotton. When you pull the cotton through the coil (when it's dry), it should be able to pass through the coil with the minimum of resistance - it expands as it saturates. This gives you the optimum wick thickness! Once youve pulled it through, gently fluff it up so it's not curled round to tight, this will also improve juice flow to the coil.

Nice coil, firing like a beast!
If you're using cotton the best way (at least to me) to tell if you have the right amount of wick is by inserting the cotton into the coil, then turn it and the end poking out the other end of the coil should also turn evenly and not twist. The cotton should fit the width of the coil but not fit tightly. Less is more with cotton, more cotton means more density/less space between the fibers for juice to occupy.
It's just a thought but looking at the picture, I'd be tempted to take the tail of the wick and make a bit more of a cloud rather than a snake.

Thanks all. Yes i was using about 2 x as much cotton as needed lol. really is a little goes a long way. Right, I think I have had enough for just now. Been doing bugger all work and playing with rda / wicks. Gone through most of my old juices and I'm starting to feel a little sick and the battery died in the svd. I think it's trying to tell me. "Have lunch and do some work" oh and " I think you have got enough NIC into your system this morning" Damn shiny toys !!!!! Ruff.
