A fully charged (4.2v) battery will give 11.75w with a 1.5ohm coil. As the battery discharges, the power decreases - at 3.5v you will be getting 8w, and at this point you should think about changing the battery. Remember, there's no meter to tell you when to change it, but you'll learn with time. If in doubt, change it - don't let it discharge too much. intheblim the aerotank will work fine on a mech as will pretty much any clearo. The only difference from vv/vw will be the drop in vapour production as the battery looses charge. At 4.2 volts you will get 11.75 watts and at 3.5 volts you will get 7.65 watts so it will change as voltage of the battery changes. The kayfun is my favourite tank just now and will handle higher watts than a clearo if you wick with cotton so you will be able to adjust the resistance of your coil to suit.

As long as your wick can supply juice fast enough it should not burn.

The burnt taste is because your coil can't wick fast enough to keep it with the speed you are vaping the juice. It's all down to your wick, not the amount of power you're putting through it. What material are you using as wick? Is it a homemade coil, or a shop-bought one? Cotton wool is a very efficient wick, even in a protank style head.
