Hello, Another newbie here. Have been doing my homework by reading alot of the information on here (which is very very useful!). I am trying to give up smoking (currently smoke 15 superkings a day). I'm thinking of starting off with the Riva 1100 Kit The Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit - and now I have a few questions - should I also buy cartomisers? was thinking Cartomisers Boge 510 Standard Resistance Black and Steel (5 Pack) and do I also need 'drip tips' - man of video for cartomisers recommends drip tips. Also regarding the liquid - would 18mg strength be ok?. Would really appreciate any help / advise Also is there anything else I would need? Many thanks

Welcome wendy, You've pretty much nailed it with your suggestions, just make sure you order a few sample juices to try and maybe a stronger nic content as well as the 18mg, say 24mg, if the 24 is too much you can water it down with the 18mg. Good luck

Hi Wendy and: To answer your questions Yes, a Riva 1100 kit is a good place to start (piched post from Chrissie in another Newbie thread) "I think this is the best deal at the moment. You will also need to buy some e-liquid as the cartridges that comes with the kit are dry. Use discount code "allabout" for 10% off - www.vapeescape.co.uk/the-riva-110....eginners%5D~151 "In my opinion you SHOULD buy cartomisers they are alot less fiddly and last longer between fills than a atomiser/cartridge that you will get with your kit. They should last anywhere between 2 to 7 days before needing replacemnt (they are disposable). You will need a drip tip, as they just feel better in your mouth although the cartomisers can be used without them. 18mg strength should be fine! Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping! You will need a bit of perseverance and will be confused at first, it can be a steep learning curve but remember there are LOADS of people here to help, ask your questions no matter how trivial they may seem, you'll get a good honest answers and no one will think that your question is trivial, GUARANTEED!

Thanks Blakey, so I need the cartomisers & the drip tips as well, do I need foam or anything else? You would only need replacement foam if you intend to stay with the crtridge system that it comes supplied with, if you are using boges then you'll need nothing else but the juice Edit to add if you're going with the boges then I would suggest the 2ohm version on a riva battery for best results

Brilliant. Thanks for the help Blakey & Disco Des - much appreciated. Disco Des, I notice its been over 2 years since your last cigarette (congratulations) did you quit by vaping? The reason I'm asking is because I have an appointment at the doctors for quitting smoking advice and support (I live in cambridge & its called Camquit) - they go through options for NRT and also medication - so I just wondered if i would need medication as well.

I never ever intended to give up to be honest, was just seeing what all the fuss was about Then I noticed that I was smoking fags a lot less whilst playing with the e-cig so I then realised that I no longer needed fags any more and stayed with the e-cig. I used both side by side for a few months and the transition was simple because I was under no pressure to stop smoking.

You need no medication just a good relaxed attitude to the whole vaping malarky

You don't 'need' drip tips with cartomisers, but it is a hell of a lot nicer than 'sucking on a tailpipe'
As regards your NRT and support - I genuinely think you won't need that either...

Yes, over 2 years since I smoked a "nasty" I was a 30 a day man. I did quit by discovering e-cigs and very quickly found that tobacco smelt horrible to me after only vaping for a week. I discovered e-cigs when I too was attending a quit-clinic, I showed the nurse the e-cig after she took a cabon monoxide test and showed that I had the same level as a non-smoker after a week vaping instead of smoking, she was impressed! You should not use NRT when vaping otherwise you might get too much nicotine, I remember the bad dreams I had when I wore patches to bed

Thank you all so much - this is all very helpful information - I wasn't sure if i should mention to clinic about the ecigarette - however regarding the amount of nicotine i will tell them what I'm doing. Also, when you first start do you tend to go with the tobacco flavours or doesn't it matter?

Hello & welcome Wendy Once you get your e-cig, I doubt you will even want to bother going to the quit clinic Yes, most folks do tend to start off with the tobacco flavours - in fact I still prefer them after over 3 years of using an e-cig

Thanks Chrissie - Well the appointment is on the 29th, so you might be right. I've placed my order now - I'm just hoping I got everything I need. I've gone with the tobacco flavours too. Did you start vaping to quit smoking? Also did you vape more at the start or does it remain pretty constant?

I was a very heavy smoker Wendy - on a bad day I could get through 50-60 cigs I just wanted to cut down & did so instantly. You will find that sometimes you want to vape more than you used to smoke. However, the strange thing that I & others have found, is that you can at other times go far longer without needing to vape.
