Major snag with the Focalecig 4nine mod, the top cap is too thin. If the thread on your atty is not continuous ie it stops short of the base, when the atty is screwed right down tight onto the top cap the male part of the thread runs past the female thread and just about disengages with it, in other words you have a free spinning atty. Maybe threading the insulating washer that comes with the top cap might be a cure, giving twice the thickness for the 510 thread to grip, otherwise it's add a washer to the top of the cap.
Disappointed hardly covers it.

Cousin Itt Thanks for the magnet dimensions. I can see for this and for other Mechs that I'm going to need to start holding some varients. Could you recommend a source ? osdset (curious alias, btw) I seems to me that the insulator threading doesn't naturally line up with the brass top cap threading. I got around this by removing the insulator, screwing on an atty (KF 3.1) and then from the underside screwing on the insulator and tightening it as much as I could to hold it in place (Marigolds can be used to free it). I wonder if you've sheered off the threading on the insulator (or it, to your misfortune, simply wasn't threaded in your mod). Which atty(s) are you using? - I've only used KF's (genuine) and a cloned Squape and didn't see a problem just using the top cap without insulator (apart from anxiety). I'm finding I like this more and more, despite it's flaws.

Every size you could ever want on ebay tomj777 The higher the "N" number the stronger they are. surface area also has an effect so if you go from 8mm wide down to 6mm wide but keep the same power it will be less resistance and softer to push. Make sure you add an insulator round your magnet if you swap sizes or it can move and give a short or flip round and stick to your button magnet.

I'm finding I like this more and more, despite it's flaws. The threading on the insulator is still OK, and if I did the same as you it would work. I'm using an UD AGA-TD, the problem is that the distance between the end of the thread on the connector and the base of the atty is almost the same as the thickness of the thinnest part of the top cap, as a temporary fix I've plonked an O ring on the connector to raise the atty about 1.5mm off the cap which allows it to screw on tight. The manufacturers have removed too much brass from the underside of the top cap leaving 1.8mm for the female thread, that's way too small IMO. My long term fix will be to solder a small brass nut with the same thread on the underside of the cap which will double the threaded area, then bore out the centre of the supplied insulator to accommodate it.

Ah - now I understand - Would an alternative be to continue the thread with a tap? Feasible? You probably wouldn't want to disturb the AGA-TD though.

Yep, but in my box of assorted taps I have nearly every metric and imperial size I could possibly want, except an M7.5 because it's not a common thread pitch. M7.1 however are two a penny but too coarse for 510 connectors. Solved it by cutting a small groove at 90 deg to the threads on an old clearo 510 connector and using that as a tap for the Delrin insulator. This is an old trick I've done before to cut threads in plastic, file a groove in the bolt you want to use and use it as a tap, works for wood and plastics, might even work on ally.

geordie_vaper This is the mod focalecig.com/Product/4Nine-Style-Special-Edition-Mechanical-Mod-19628 Yours for only £13 or there abouts (including shipping). Despite question marks over this mod (the firing button can be problematic to locate at the bottom of the tube and heaven only knows what's up with the 510 button), I'd be equally happy with this at that price (and, after reflection, I am very happy with this mod).
