There is something been bugging me since we returned from a recent caravan holiday up north.
I was the only e-cig user on the site until almost the end of the holiday when a couple arrived and pitched next to us. The guy was a Vaper. He was using and Ego and Clearomiser and was clearly very new to the whole Vaping Experience.
So, one afternoon I invited him into the van for a vaping chat and to show him a few MODs and let him try a few e-juices. All well and good and he went away happy.
Then, that evening we were chatting with them as couples do and they were saying that they were touring Scotland for a month or so before returning home to England to set up their own business. When I asked them what kind of business they were looking at, they said that they were thinking of going into the E-cig selling and making their own E-juice and selling that too.
I almost choked!
I don't know how others feel about this scenario, but to me, the mere fact that any totally amateur Tom, Dick or Harry can, at the moment, set up, make and sell e-juices that are being consumed by you and me, with no experience of chemistry or health and safety is simply asking for trouble and screaming out to authority the need for strict regulations on e-juice production.
Up until this holiday, I was as much against regulations as anybody else. Now I am no so much.

Most concerning, but as a new trader I wonder if they have considered the financial implications in getting any business off the ground, let alone such a specialised one. really would like to see how his application for a poison licence gets on

Well, if they are only ever mixing down from a 72 - 75mg nic. juice, they will not need a poisons license. But you wonder if they are even aware of this?

True enough, but to be commercially viable I should imagine they would have to source the nicotine fom a supplier wherever they can. Now wwe all understand the potential dangers and (I hope) take reasonable precautions. But at the outset I would fear the lack of expertise and knowledge of the market could very well present substantial fiscal problems, that may lead to the temptaion to cut corners......not the sort of action we need in the present paranoid media mindset.

lobeydosser we are also often horrified by some of the new e-cig vendors that apply for vendor status. Some of them can hardly string a sentence together & when we tell them we can not give them vendor status as their website does not conform to DSR's, we sometimes get replies asking us what are DSR's. Even when we spell it out to them, some are still none the wiser & say they have never heard of, or don't understand Distance Selling Regulations

Seem to be more and more shyster/Arthur Daly types wanting to jump on the bandwagon and cash in on the growing popularity of vaping.

This couple had the money. What they didn't have was any knowledge of the subject other than an Ego e-cig and a couple of flavours of e-juice. They didn't know there were Forums on the subject and they had never seen any other e-cigs than the Ego.
He was most taken by my Vamo and couldn't believe he could buy an e-cig that lasted all day.
They appeared to be a fairly intelligent couple and hopefully the Forums will make them realise that there is a lot more to e-cigs than a battery and a tank.

So, they are not even vaguely aware of the market they are intending operate in. Not a good start.
I question their business skills, let alone their subject knowledge.

It just sounds like someone who has really taken to the idea of vaping, doesn't like what they are doing (work wise) and now have a crazy plan to invest all their savings and try and compete in an already competitive market. People get these idea's all the time without looking into it first. Hopefully they will look into it before ordering 10,000 ego units from china and realise its going to be harder than they thought.

Yes sej016 and hijack, Lotsadosh and nae common sense. Years ago I had "the good idea" and the premises, just not enough money. But I did a Business Course and only after that, decided that the market for my "good idea" would simply not be feasible. I have never regretted that, but I still have the premises and it makes a great bolt hole. One thing that amused me about this couple was the fact that as I make my own e-juice for my own use, why I didn't sell it "and make money from it"? They simply couldn't understand the fact that I make my own liquid because that is part of my vaping experience. That there is a fundamental difference between having a hobby and having a business. Hopefully they will figure that one out before they lose too much of their savings.

I think a few of us have thought about the idea, done the research, and thought better of it. Mine went like this.
KFLv2's are in short supply in UK (after having to get mine from US) Why don't i put in £500 and get a price from Ehpro in china and open an Ebay shop and sell them on. Might make a profit that makes it worth my while, and i may even build on what i start. Got hold of ehpro agent got price of 20 units@$26+$56 PP. So that just under $30 per unit, not what i was hoping for Oh hold on, 20% import tax from china now $36 per unit So its £22.50 before ive started to try and sell them.
Bin that idea, i got mine sent from the US for £25 which included shipping
I suppose i could have tried to get them down on price, but how low are they going to go for 20 units.
