If you haven`t tried this type of atty and want to, this is a good buy if you want to try all the options. It comes with coils, ss rope wicks, mesh and silica wicks. Looks really well made, three or four different finish options

I was just looking at these, they look an easy build, easy maintain atty. Has anyone actually tried this style (or whatever its cloned from) before?

It`s a genesis basically, still popular and great for fiddling with lol. I gave up on mine with the ss wicks long ago, too much faffin for me but might give it another go with this

The biggest problem with all of these atties/drippers is that they dont come with instructions... yes you can search youtube but it would be nice to have a 'this goes there' type of cribsheet.
For instance, what is a ss wick? and what do you do with it?

The SS wick is SS mesh, very fine which you roll up as a wick and also heat treat it so it gets a coating of oxidation which acts as an insulator, then the coil goes around it.

Cant you just use cotton wool instead? I dont think it would work, organic yarn would work. It has to feed from the coils into the tank below, so needs a bit of structure. I have been using organic yarn for my coils and been really impressed with the wicking

You see that's where a newbie like myself struggles, I've just got around the idea of using cotton wool

I had looked at this atty and thought 'oh no, ill have to mess around with mesh'. What could you use instead? I have a couple of yarns both Rico shown below.
Is this the sort of thing you mean?

Yes, anything with some structure could be experimented with but cotton wool would be a bit impractical I think Needs to be top performance wicking though hijack

I've done a double wick with silica on the Kraken but I found it suffered from to many dry hits. Now I'm back to using a single SS mesh wick, seems more consistent to me.

It's arrived. Got it boiling right now, ready for fun and games later. Gotta say the machining is bang on
