Hi all i was wondering which wire do you use for making your own coils at the moment i am using Kanthal A1 Heat Resistance Wire - 0.3mm and also Kanthal A1 Heat Resistance - Wire - 0.25mm but on youtube i see a lot of them use different sizes

Kanthal round 0.25, 0.27, 0.32, 0.4, 0.5 Kanthal ribbon 0.01 x 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.8 & 0.005 x 0.8
Totally depends what you are building, what power & wick.

Depends on what attie I'm coiling and what resistance I want
But I will range from .15-.16-.20-.25-.30-.35. If I'm making a standard micro coil then 9 times out of 10 it will be .30

it depends on what you are trying to achieve, most sizes/shapes of wire have their uses, what works for you is the best one to use. In the main fatter gauges for lower resistance builds, but how much space you have also ads to the mix. Then you have multi coil setups where you might want higher resistances in the individual coils. What wick your using, do you want to use ribbon, flat or twisted....... The options are endless.....you may prefer different juices with different coils....the subject can be endless........if you want it to be.

I just read through this as I am now a rebuildable convert and I only have one wire. Had no clue what it is, i have just been using it as is and now twisted also. SOOOOoooooo I looked through my PM's of long ago. (about 2 months lol) and found this. Ive included some cotton wool, and a spool of 0.2mm kanthal wire. Use the included screwdriver to make a microcoil - 6 turns around the screwdriver should be about 2.2 ohms. If you want to make lower resistance coils, you will need thicker wire.So now i know it's been 0.2 all along. and thanks ionian , still got loads left mate. Now I ain't sure if i should be getting different ones or just keep on doing what I'm doing. Twisted does appear to be the Bol**x though !! Ruffie.

twisted is good and so is parallel duel coils See i have not done dual coils yet. What would you say would be the maximum resistance where I'd see a benefit to a single of say 1.5 ohm. or is it only slower heating time but better end result ? Reason is the SVD / VAMO firing. although the svd seems to fire a bit lower. 1.2 twisted just now and the vamo won't touch it. OR, is it straight into Sub ohm and 30A batts for duals etc ?? Sorry for questions but .... well that's what it's all about isn't it. Ruffie.

I have .25 .28 .30 .32 .35 .40 .45
I mainly use .30 for recoiling Kanger heads.
For RBA's and RDA's I use .35 and .40 for coils of 0.9-1.5 Ohm (7-8 wraps on a 2.4mm or 3mm former)
Have tried the .45 a couple of times for a 0.5 Ohm coil.
Duel coil or quad coil any of the above to go lower.

I use .25 for protank heads, 8 wraps around 1.5mm mandrel gives between 1.8 and 2.0. ohms, 6 wraps around a 2mm mandrel the same (microcoils)

My SVD has fired a .8 Ohm coil when I tried my KFL on it, but as it has a 15w limit I don't see the point of going much below 1.5 Ohm as the coils take longer to heat up and I cant see what the benefit would be. If it was a 30w or 50w or Mech then you would get the benefit of going below 1 Ohm.

I have lots of different wire, but I mainly use a single 1.0-1.1 ohm microcoil for my heron and xploras. For this I use 7 wraps of .35, or 6 wraps of .32 kanthal around a 2mm drill bit.
As much as I enjoy fiddling with other bits when I'm in the mood, I've found that these builds on a mech are my vaping nirvana.

Ruffie. depending on what atty your using it is possible to parralel in a kayfun but your not realy gona manage to get it high nuff ohmage to fire on yer vamo i dont think with .25 the highest ive managed in mine was 1 ohm but ill have a go latter on and get back to you its more surface aria covering the wick so you should get more vapor/flavor at some point you are going to give in and buy a mech mod i know it you know it everybody knows it when you do buy the batts get the 30amp pluss batts you dont have to use them to the limit but its makes like a little safer and a bit easier if you ever want to sub ohm drip and chase clouds hope that helps
