If you've got leather sofas..keep your dogs off them for about 2hrs min when applying advantage.. Our dark chocolate leather suite now has light patches in places advantage will take the colour out of leather.. Also if u need flea spray for the house the vet will try to sell you indorex (which is brilliant) at £25 a can..you'll need 3 cans for average house but if you look online you can get it for £11 delivered

I am glad you posted this here Chrissie, thank you for saying about it. Advantage works well. Due to do mine tomorrow (unless it is chucking it down outside). Thank you for getting me some last week.

YW Helen, it made it even cheaper buying the 3x4 packs (one for you, one for a neighbour that also has 7 cats & one for me) as we not only got it at the cheaper rate for buying more than one, but it meant free postage as well I love a bargain

Unfortunately, looks like its only for fleas, not ticks. We NEED protection from ticks, for both the cats and the dogs.
Currently use effipro, which is exactly the same as frontline, only shed loads cheaper - never have a problem with fleas, and only get dead ticks. We use a cat pipette on the chooks every now and again, to stop lice and red mite.

I use Advantage too on my two dogs and one cat.
We had a bit of a flea problem earlier this year and Frontline did nothing.. Tried Effipro which also did nothing to solve the problem.
Advantage worked wonders and was particularly cost effective because I could use it on both dogs and cat.
I too bought it on-line for a ridiculously low price.

fred it's interesting that you are finding that a fipronil treatment is still working for you, where it doesn't for so many others. I wonder if it's down to location? I.e. fleas in certain parts of the country have mutated to become immune to Fiprinol more quickly than other areas?

Frontline stopped working on our cat 6mths ago, the vet was no help, said we had to keep using it as it could take up to 6mths to work ... bought advantage from somewhere else and it seems to be working Just be glad you are in the U.K. if you want to worm a cat (or dog) here you have to get a proscription from the vet, it's impossible to buy over the counter anywhere and so you have to pay a hefty "proscription charge" on top

Decided to try a fipronil one again, hoping that just a change would help - but the fleas laughed at me as well. Within 24 hours of using Advantage I was finding dead/dying fleas on my cats & after 2 days - not a trace of them to be seen. Plus 3 weeks later, still not a sign of them or any flea dirt.

I don't routinely treat my little pack for fleas, just as and when required.
If the guidelines for applying the treatment tell me to avoid contact with the chemical involved then I guess it is fairly toxic, and I don't want to subject my animals to that if I don't need to.
This year has been an exception, probably due to the heat index...
I use the same logic when it comes to vaccinations.
These are 'Bread and Butter' to most vets, despite research that suggests that vaccinations are good for at least 3 years, probably more.
I have a friend who lives in USA and who treats her cat with Frontline every month, says he sleeps for two days after every treatment....
I think we 'over treat' our animals and it will come back to bite us, much like the current antibiotic failure is now doing.

I used the advantage last time but it didn't work very well, maybe worked for a few days but that was about it so got the frontline again as that seems to work better on my moggies.
I only treat them if it gets out of hand too, don't do it every four weeks or that, fleas is just part of their life and living in the sticks it's inevitable they're gonna be around.
