Beware, Customs and PO charges

Just for info. The Post Office don't make any charge. It's RM or Parcelforce. They are all separate businesses. HMRC make them responsible for the collection of import duty and return or destruction if this isn't paid. So they pay someone to do this job. So you pay a charge to Royal Mail. It's a private business, run for profit.
Seems quite simple to me. Unless you all routinely work for free?

Me too. But that's doing something that I enjoy. My kids are grown up, and what I call semi independent.
I don't envy anyone just joining the battle.

i was charged £15.32, of which £8.00 was a handling fee. i was initially a bit cheesed off, though it still was a saving in comparison to buying in the UK. It is a bit of a lottery and this was the first time i have had to pay duty though they seem to be tightening up on this. imports aside i am truly getting fed up of paying what i feel to be extortionate postage charges for domestic goods, for example a P+P charge of over £3 for 10ml of concentrate , all the more frustrating as not the type of thing you can just pop down the local shopping centre for down here in sunny Dorset
