Anyhoooo, on amazon it's £3.99+£2.90 postage for 100gms search eBay for vanillin and the same company a selling it for £5.00 free postage (well included in the price I suppose but still a bit cheaper) every little helps? or you could go mad and get 250gms

I'm sure 100gms will last a long time, might use some in baking but tend to use vanilla sugar if anything. After I'd posted this, @paulo very kindly PM'd me and offered me some, but I'd already bought from eBay, so I wondered if it might be worth having a 'I've got some spare vanillin if anyone wants a few grams' stuck thread somewhere? Maybe if we felt generous we could post something like....I can offer vanillin to x number of people and when it's all been taken we could remove ourselves from the post? Not sure if it would work. Have to ask Perpetua or Chrissie or other mods what they think? Anyway, as 100gms seems rather a lot and I'm sure I'll use some I'd be happy to offer up several little packets of the stuff to wannabe custard makers! Mind you, could be a bit suspicious, small packets of white powder hurtling round the postal system

We'll, vanillin powder stuff arrived today, so I set to with PG and a teaspoon. 10ml PG, and added a bit at a time and mixed, and mixed and mixed and mixed and mixed. It turned a lovely milky shade, so I sucked it into the syringe to find sludge at the bottom of the mixing cup.....more PG....mix, mix, mix. Forgot to warm anything. Then, decided to taste test the powder.......... Please don't. It's really not nice Two samples ready to send, so if another couple of peeps would like some, PM details, I'll happily share. Don't think it'll be going into any baking I do, prefer vanilla flavouring and this definitely isn't the same

the bottle I mixed a few weeks back, I thought was well melded....
I looked today and it's at least 3ml solid base and 7ml mixed? think I must have overdone the amount I put in bottle!

I make mine up in a microwaveable china ramekin sammy13, having a larger surface area I find easier to stir and get the powder to dissolve. If it still looks a bit sludgey, then I zap it in the micro for just a few seconds. Leave to cool just to be certain, then draw up into a syringe and bottle. I don't tend to use it straight away no, mainly because I can't stand running out of anything so always like to have a bottle to use, ready and waiting.

I gave my mixed bottle a warm bath and a big shake (don't have a microwave) and it's made a difference I think. Warming certainly helps it dissolve. Chucked some in a custardy mix I'd made and crossed my fingers

Added a bit more pg to the sludge, microwaved it for about 7/8 seconds but still have sludge. Should I leave the sludge and just use what I managed to get, or carry on adding pg? I don't want to dilute it to much ???

spacey, glad it arrived......I had exactly the same problem, but no microwave! Ended up with much sludge at the bottom, tipped it out into a dish sat in warm water, added more PG and mixed, mixed, mixed, mixed, more PG, aaaaannd Just checked, only a little sludge now. Maybe it just needs enough PG to dilute it?

Yay - you out sludged the sludge!! Mine is as de-sludged as I think it's going to get - I want to try mixing some custardy love child and can't wait any longer My hands smell lovely and vanillary though so can't complain
