my wooden mod has a split inside, on edge behind squonk bottle. it's not particularly noticeable from the outside unless it's held up to the light.
I'm trying to work out the best way to repair it, was thinking epoxy as it's in a position where constant squonking pressure but there is two tiny gaps that would be visable from outside, so was trying to find a wood colored filler?
but really I hadn't a clue what's for the best so thought it's best ask around as I know a few of you mod builders work with wood and have experience.
I'm going to attempt a photo add via phone ( on next edit!)
and while I'm on the subject I've also got battery issues! I only have nipple topped 18500 batteries and the top battery connector is cockeyed and there's no way it'll fit so are flat topped smaller? what's my best bet on battery type.....

Can't picture the split without a picture Pepperty but maybe PVA wood glue is an option if you can apply the glue in the split then squeeze the split tight overnight with a clamp or if you have a vice use that but use wooden chocks between each side of the mod and the vice jaws. PVA is white but dries clear cant help on the battery front as I've always been a nipple fan

nothing wrong with nipples but I cant help with your batteries as I don't have any 18500 batteries at all even though I do have mods that take them

...in the end (5x goes at loading photo via fricking phone) I got out of bed, came down and put pc on Theres obviously no way to clamp it hence me wondering about epoxy, but clear epoxy wont disguise the two miniscule missing flakes on front casing, whether I can rub a bit of lead pencil in after its set...not sure? I'll probably pop up a couple of piccys of the battery contacts tomorrow, I'm just all googled out and cant find some photo examples of battery size to see what will fit in this wee thing, theres very little space and the contact is glued in at a dreadful angle, its an escarpment fitment!

One way to repair a crack like that is to get hold of a piece of veneer that matches the timber the mods made from, and cut a small strip from it. Coat the strip in any decent woodworking PVA glue and work the strip into the gap. If you have gotten any debris in the crack or juice residue you'll need to scrape it out with something thin first. Aim to get the strip flush with the inside if possible because that area is the most difficult to clean up afterwards. Wrap the whole thing with rubber bands until the glue is dry.
Once the glue is set, take the bands off and trim the veneer almost flush with the outside face, if your mod has a varnished finish you wont want to sand that off, so a strip of masking tape either side of the repair will protect the finish while you carefully sandpaper the strip flush, you could scrape it flush with a Stanley knife blade if you felt confident enough.
If the crack is really small then I'd clamp the thing together to close the crack up, mask both sides as above. and apply a narrow bead of good quality thin superglue, this will wick into the crack nicely. Apply sparingly! a little goes a long way. A quick squirt of activator if you have any will set the glue instantly, or just leave it for half an hour or so to set fast.
Superglue is also a brilliant spot filler for damaged lacquer finishes.
That's yer lot! Otherwise I'll get lynched by the guitar repair fraternity for giving away trade secrets.

The issue wasn't actually a split, more a scoop out of too much wood from the inside so what I've done to cosmetically improve the inside (outside shows no problem) Its amazing what can be achieved with superglue, woodstain and a slither of cocktail stick!
Finished result, its neat enough and stops the light shining through and it offers some strength Quiyte tidy enough, I may stain the slither a little more with brown shoe polish

Its more of a cosmetic repair, I didn't like how thin the wood was, literally paper thin If I start pressing hard on the bottle in front it could then crack right through? this should just offer strength, and thats whats important - its useable and tidy. To be honest the inside of most wooden mods is as rough as a badgers arse! I've ordered a nice bottle of mineral oil to treat the wood and it is also perfect for cleaning and lubricating my stainless steel mod threads
