After making my coils for a while and just torching them with an ordinary lighter ( which isn't effective at all ) , I decided to use my plumbers Rothenberger Super Fire 2 and the results in getting a tight microcoil were great. So , after doing this I went out and bought ( and wish I hadn't ) a smallish butane torch for coiling and it is THIS one.To say this is rubbish is a total understatement , my feelings are this is dangerous and how it EVER passed any UK testing is beyond me.Then I went on the internet and looked at others and the comments on all that I've found so far seem to be the same , either they won't light while gas is pouring out , or they fall apart in a few days , or after a period of non use they don't work at all.I certainly don't want to have to get my plumbers torch out every time I want to do coiling , it's to heavy , to big and easily knocked over , there are also many other reasons but the size of it with the foot long gas bottle is really a no no.
So , as the title suggests , does anyone know of something that I can use that is reliable , small and has a lockable ON feature ?

I got the Rothenberger gas soldering iron kit from B&Q (well, someone has to). The torch itself is just slightly smaller than a nemesis+atty. Fits the toolbox really well. Lighter gas.
Adjustable flame, locks on. Just need a lighter to light it. Doesn't blow itself out and the tip stays cool.
I got it from B&Q cos they're just round the corner, and I feel safe with it being approved by B&Q.

Montana I use this one basic and cheap but it does the job, been using it for around 5 months now and can't fault it. There is a disposable lighter inside that you fill with lighter gas and away you go.

I don`t bother with torching . As long as you keep the wire / coils tight it doesn`t seam to make any difference to me ???

Just had a look at their website and can't see anything from Rothenberger as far as torches are concerned.Do you have a link to it on another site please ?

Montana Screwfix have it, but I don't think you should pay £25 for the kit when mine was only £16

Vote up for the Iroda (c/o spaniel). Lockable, refillable from the butane cig lighter tank sold everywhere, nice flame, only issue I have with mine is that it doesn't shut off immediately but takes 5 or so seconds to die down, but no biggie.

I think that £25 isn't to bad ,you got it at a really good price. One thing though , I can't seem to find it through the Rothenberger web site at all even under older models.
Can you use it on the stand, as I can't find a picture of someone using it and can it be locked on ?

Unfortunately not. It's a pen type so won't stand on it's base. It does lock on, and has a little clip that lifts the hot end an inch or so, but I don't think it's the one you're looking for. It doesn't have a base to stand it on. I think it's made by someone else and resold by Rothenberger, I can't even google pics of it. Got me worried now, hope I ain't got a fake.

I got mine in The Range Montana it's one from the Colourworks range that you use for kitchen use and I think I paid £8.99 for it and works great. Also available HERE on Amazon. Only bad thing about it is the fact it has a locking mechanism on the trigger which is a PITA when you only have one hand free.
