Apologies as I'm sure this will hae been covered on other posts, but I could only find rewicking guides without the cleaning detailed.
With the demise of the V3 I want to start rewicking (baby steps, I'll then move to recoiling once I master that!) so I can stick with the V3.
I've found many guides and tutorials (cotton thread or makeup pads), but can't see how people find is the best way to clean the head and rest of the clearo first.
Also do people swear by boiling the cotton first? Seen some videos where people say you must but others where they haven't.
Many thanks

I normally run the kanger stuff under the hot tap or just chuck everything into a bowl of hot water, swill it around a bit and dry it off. I dry burn the heads though. If I've recoiled/rewicked them with cotton then I remove the cotton first. If I'm using the standard silica heads I dry burn them with the silica in. I don't bother boiling the cotton. As you've said some do some don't so I'm still not sure what's right or wrong. I use the cheapest cotton balls I can find think they're about 99p for a bag of 200 and they're unperfumed.

Thanks. When you say "cotton balls" do you mean just that? As in balls of cotton wool?

Thanks. When you say "cotton balls" do you mean just that? As in balls of cotton wool? Yip. That's exactly what I use. One cotton ball seems to last ages as I just take off what I need and wick it through the head. If you do use them get the cheapest ones you can find. Think a few peeps order them from Amazon too.

Great, have a massive bag of them somewhere. Going to give it a go today. If you've watched the guides etc you can't go far wrong. Just enough that there's some resistance between the coil and the twisted cotton off a bit of the cotton wool ball and you're good to go

If you've an Utrasonic Cleaner you could run the gubbins through a couple of cycles in that tobylerone . . . failing that an overnight soak in some Bicarbonate of Sods which is tasteless unlike Denture Tablets.

Well, that was remarkably easy! Couldn't find the cotton balls so cut up a make up remover pad. Vaping lovely.
Thanks, will clean with bicarb next time. Just used hot water this time.

Thanks. When you say "cotton balls" do you mean just that? As in balls of cotton wool? Yes cotton balls is what you want and obviously unperfumed etc.
You may struggle to rewick factory coils as the wire is very thin and loosely wrapped, but theres no harm having a go. Home made coils use thicker wire that holds its shape much better when threading the cotton through.
To clean you can 'dry burn' which involves heating the coil in the open to burn off the crud.
Now the coil is clean its time for the cotton
unroll the cotton ball and tear of a small strip
roll it using the palm of your hand and thread a thin end through the coil twisting the cotton so it remains thin while threading
snip off the ends and assemble the head
|LOL Im too late you've done it

Never too late, good to see for next time. Will try cotton wool then. Not too difficult with the factory coil. Just pushed through a bit with a pin then twisted it through from the other end using tweezers.
What kind of wire should I buy to try recoiling?

What kind of wire should I buy to try recoiling? 0.3mm A1 kanthal would let you make coils from 1.5-2.0 Ohm wrapping around something 2-2.5mm using 8-9 wraps. So 8 wraps on a 2mm will give 1.5 Ohm and 9 wraps on a 2.5mm will give 2.0 Ohm. You can use a coil calc to work out what you need to do to get the coil you want, just fill in the relevant bits with the correct sizes etc.
