Why I didn't think to google this sooner I've no idea

Speaking to a dad of two teens at church about phones and he said 'I just got the kids cloned samsungs'...

I'm like - I so should have thought of this one sooner....Make me have some street cred on the bus

$78 for a Samsung S5, plus postage. Was looking at one for myself - think it was a vendor on alibaba. Was stated that they were unlocked to all networks worldwide.

Not alibaba. Of course, as usual I can't remember. But I bet if I had the funds for one I could find it in a snap

I bought one of these ZTE Open C phones about a month ago, it's a firefox OS phone but you can flash them for free. I put Android KitKat on mine and it's been working great since I got it, Google store available, decent camera, runs 3D games really well and is unlocked to all networks. Great phone for the price

the problem with cloned phones is updating them with new versions of android

watch the clones on ali express though, they only have 1/2 gb of ram and 4gb rom.

Ft have been doing non branded droid phones for ages, lots of choice on spec ram/rom/cores, though not tempted as stopped buying new top spec smartphones after the third one about 8 years ago.

I wouldn't buy a clone phone - it will probably come preinstalled with some nice privacy issues on top of the poor spec and substandard components as Mev rightly mentioned.

I't just not worth the risk in my eyes.

Just watched the YouTube clip of a 1:1 s5 clone, very impressed and will be perfect for the mrs who isn't interested in pixel count or processor speed.
If it's as good as it looks then I know where I shall be now buyer my future phones!

If your thinking of getting one, then go for one with at least 16 GB rom and a fast quad/octocore chip. You might as well go for as big a RAM chip as well, these can be added after you buy the phone but youll get it cheaper with the phone at point of sale in china.
I was looking at tablets a while back and looks like you can get some pretty good ones for a faction of the price you would pay here.
You should be able to do flash updates of the OS so should have same security as any other device that is using Android.

Went for the quad core 32gb 2gb galaxy s5 1:1 clone, seen the YouTube review of it with the fingerprint scanner working and heart rate monitor etc.
My Mrs just needs a phone that does basic stuff, she ain't interested in pixel count or os, so I ain't gonna lose out and if it's as good as it's hyped up to be then I'll get one when it's time to upgrade and just switch to a SIM only plan!

Actually your right arron, 16GB rom is probably more that most would need. but if your going to pile loads of apps on it, the more the better.
