Just think, that little prick in the arm (thinks of Baldrick,"But I don't have one there!") could save a life, and you'll be able to put it into perspective.

Well done itsssmeee you will be a lifesaver literally. If it wasn't for blood donors you wouldn't have me here bugging you all. When I had my accident i was in about as critical condition as critical can get, was given less than 2% chance in making it. I required 18 hours of surgery and 62 units of blood in the first 48 hours as fast as they were putting it in it was pouring bk out. In total I had 16 operations requiring 139 units of blood/plasma. Donated tissue/bone was also required I have nothing but total respect and admiration for donors so thank you.

I used to give blood got my pins but I once went and to the young nurse that came to set me up I jokingly said if you hurt me with that needle I will never come again and before I knew it an old woman doctor who had been hovering jabbed me with one of the air needles that don't hurt and said there that will stop any pain....I felt about 2 foot tall

itsssmeee - I donate platelets at the Newcastle Transfusion centre - the chairs at the far end where you sit there for 1 ½ hours! I faint, if I see a needle! But donating is different. They let me vape while I'm there. Don't worry about it - blood tales about 7 minutes, and you get a cup of tea and a biscuit!

I would love to donate but because I have received blood products and the meds I'm on, I'm not allowed I think it's all to do with the CJD infection and blood screening. I did donate up until they changed the rules, we had a beautiful nurse on the donation team that turned out to be one of the trainee nurses that was involved in my care 6 years previous. I have fond memories of the bed baths I received

I had a phobia over needles as a young man, and would faint at the sight of one, no matter how small. When I had my blood pressure problems a couple of years ago, I of course had to have bloods taken to test for kidney and liver function, etc.. The practice nurse knew of my concerns, and was so gentle that I hardly felt the needle inserted. It got to the stage where I could watch the phial filling with blood in a detached sort of way, whilst realising that it was my own blood that I was looking at! It won't hurt at all, and you'll be out in 20 minutes - all credit to you for plucking up the courage to do it itsssmeee, you have my admiration
