This chart someone kindly uploaded is a gem when winding wicks I find : For instance if you are working with 0.3 mm kanthal, which is a popular wire gauge, 8 winds around a 2mm diameter former will give you a 1.4 ohm coil. Edit : if you make two coils of that sort, the resistance is halved. Coils are resistors that act in parallel on an atomiser, so two 1.4 ohm coils will be 0.7 ohms in total.

Ah I understand a bit more of what your saying now leo after doing some reading while my youngest was asleep this afo, thanks for taking the time I appreciate it and your kind offer? I do like the vamo but I expect compared to what I had its more advanced and lasts longer, but I think I chuffed it today with a duff battery as the spring is blue and i welded my finger to the end cap desperately trying to get the 850 out ha ha. As for chucking me in at the deep end I'm bringing a raft next time I ask a question here lol, as you say we all start somewhere and end up going where were going eventually depending I guess how interested we are in learning? I do recall something about PWM with regards to motors that powered satellite dishes many moons ago when I was an engineer for sky (one of many trades unfortunately) so if I do go down the same route as you in time Iguess iI need to put my mind at rest that I understand it fully and I can reap the benefits safely ? Thanks again Leo and your advice is always welcome! Will continue to read it over and take your advice seriously You changed your name!!! How did that happen?? If you naused your Vamo, ronaldo might be able to help... he is a mod-magician by all accounts! I wouldn't call anything I said 'advice'... it's just my experiences so far really. Turns out I'm a bit of a cloud chaser, so low ohms and mechs suit me down to the ground.. but I wouldn't advise anyone else to do it.... only to explore what's out there so you can find what's best for you. That's the nice thing about this forum, we got members just starting out with their first ego/ce4 kits, some people love their vamos, their kayfuns, slugs, foggers, roses - you name it... some jammy gits got themselves vaporsharks!! lol.... (what me jealous??) different strokes for different folks init? Personally the simplicity of mechs really appeals to me. And the flavour and clouds (and lung hits) you can get off a dripper just happens to be what I like. That doesn't mean it will suit you. I only mentioned it in this thread because you were talking about clouds and flavour earlier on. And for me that means drippers at low ohms.

Romney thanks for the invite to the secret handshake club last night even though I was spitting feathers by the end of the night, still I think the initiation of reciting the lords prayer backwards while smacking your head and rubbing yer bellie is a bit much pmsl Today is not going t be the same as I have run out of iguals Fred the red juice so it looks like I'm going to need to order a concentrate today, as it looks like that vendor i tried for the 1st time (my very 1st post here) has ripped me off as no delivery or contact in over a week ! I dunno you try to give vendors a leg up with their buisines as they start out and it ends up a right load of hastle, thank god 4 PayPal and credit card protection lol See ya

davetherayon sir you are a star as Istumbled on that chart some time ago but couldn't find it again, thanks for the advice its all much clearer now and have bookmarked the thread. So in principle wiring multiple coils is very similar to connecting loudspeakers in series or parallel, in relation to their effect on the amplifier or as it turns out in this case the battery? Thanks again much appreciated ;-)

Oh lol i was messing around but changed it back this morn, after all i dont want to make it difficult for peeps to find me on here its hard enough as it is when ur new lol. its all advice to me leo even if it is life experiance, i was taught from an early age to take it all in have an opinion but keep my gob shut ! Just checked out those vapoursharks as not heard of them, omg im dribbling down me self ha, so if Iwanted to learn more about mechs could you give me a point in the right direction etc, battery safety is important to me so will read up on that 1st, but seems like the performance of a Ferrari when you only have a Austin mini??? Although i like the igo as its simple and loads of info on the net, when money permits I will prob upgrade (any suggestions) Thanks again leo

@cra1g - once you have the Igo-L firmly within your grasp, you could do a lot worse than a decent Russian clone, which should set you back under £20 if you order from FT/China, or under £30 if you choose to get from the UK. They are not really any more difficult to coil than an Igo, and with about 4ml of juice capacity, they will last a great amount of time. Once you have mastered the filling and wicking, with a microcoil they are extremely faff-free, and can almost be treated like any other clearomiser. I'm sure there will be other suggestions, but with these being so popular, you will never be short of advice and video clips to tutor yourself with! E: I should say that the Russian 91% is sometimes called the Kayfun Lite - they have similarities, and small differences, but are essentially the same as far as coiling and wicking are concerned. Here is one example from FT - www.fasttech.com/products/0/10006473/1552300-russian-91-styled-rebuildable-atomizer-4-5ml

I've got an igo-m (dual coil, massive air flow) here that's not being used these days, I'll do you a cracking deal on it + a nemesis when you're ready to dip your toe into the mech waters!!

Hello again @cra1g. Just been reading through this thread and now we know what you have, ill add my bit. You can make a basic coil or a micro coil. A basic coil is wire wrapped around a wick so that their is space between each wrap. Although there is nothing wrong with this method, you may end up with hotspots or uneven heating if one wrap were to touch another. Alternatively you have the Micro coil, where the coil is squashed so that the wraps all touch each other. The effect of this is the coil heats up from the centre and spreads outwards to the edges of the coil. Personally I prefer the Micro coil, Its a lot neater, is more durable and heats up fairly evenly. It will also stand up to changing the wick without bending out of shape, and is a lot easier to thread a wick through. As has been mentioned the resistance of the coil will determine the power needed to heat the coil effectively leo has given a good explanation of electronic mods v's mech mods. With an electronic mod you have a power limit, and need to work within the limits of the mod. With mech mods you don't have a power limit as power is determined by the resistance of the coil(lower resistance=higher power). The limits of a mech are determined by the the Amp limit of the battery used.Going above the Apm limit of the battery when using a mech is hazardous. This is why learning about power and Amps, and the way they effect each other, is needed before jumping into using a mech. The 15W devices like the vamo are best used with coils that are above 1.5 Ohm, so something between 1.5 and 2.0 will give best results on a 15W device. Ill link a coil calculator for you to try out LucBigjohn . If you download the file to a folder you can create a shortcut to your desktop and run from there. Its in French but can be changed to English by clicking on the union jack in the botton left corner of the window. Its great for playing around with and looking at how different wire+wraps+diameters etc, will give different resistances. Out of all the calculators this is the one I always like to use. If your looking for some reading to explain things like mechs, batteries, coiling etc, take a look in our 'Guides and tutorials' section. Their are some guides you may find helpful.

BigLucJohn is what I use too, massively useful. I had to make up some Protank 1 coils the other day, and had forgotten, and this software sorted me out in seconds. I am always careful not to make coils less than 1.2ohm as I have read some scare stories about exploding and venting batteries, and don't want to around when that happens, only 6" from my face! Having said that, as long as you are careful, you can't go far wrong, and having the ability to make coils of different resistances enables you to get the best from your devices. I use microcoils most of the time, and only make the ordinary coils with 2mm Ekowool for my OH's PTs. I have played around with rayon for wicking but the only device I use it in is my Taifun GT, which works perfectly with it. All other wicking I use cotton wool, and that does the trick for me. It's all a learning curve, but you have loads of great tutors on here who are glad and happy to help you and troubleshoot when something goes wrong. And then or course there is YouTube . . .

chykensa there is so much to soak in here and your posts are top shelf (I have read many) even before joining, your link to the slow boat is now in my wish list along with many others (its a big list) ha ha I added a kracken genesis SKU 1530400 before joining here then read somewhere its a pig to wick? I have heard the term Russian many times but unclear what it refers too, I just presumed it was a top notch rba that had been cloned or should I say (styled) see everyone I am learning something here so I want another star please Chrissie lol Its become clear to me as a member that you guys not only help others with their ecig journey, but also each other with off topic problems and not only did I not expect that I honestly think its wonderful that you all take the time in this god awful world.

BigLucJohn is what I use too, massively useful. Im glad im not the only one who uses LucBigjohn. It really is very good, and once you set the correct leg length, usually my coils will read a few 1/100ths of what it says they should read.
