You know, we give kudos to our suppliers for getting stuff out to us so promptly but we seem to forget the Royal Mail aspect of our prompt deliveries. I ordered a keyring thing yesterday, Jason popped it in the post, and my post lady just delivered it. Not only did she do so with a smile, she also rubbed Mungo's tummy for him. Kudos to R.M. They very seldom fail me.

I wish I could concur - we are lucky if we see our postie by 3.30pm. Puts cards through the door saying he called, and he hasn't, and he's grumpy to boot. Not to mention the post we get that arrives 5 days after a first class posting. I call them Royal Snail for a reason...

It's very much a random postal service round here as well, at any time of the year . . . when it's good it's fantastic, when it's bad it's blumming dire. Pleased to hear it all worked smoothly for you Lynda, enjoy your SD keyring.

PeeKay,
Isn't Berkshire now considered to be ''Southern Midlands''? (I read that somewhere very recently..)
Southampton here....

Perhaps, although I can get to Southampton quicker than I can get to Birmingham, and we have to suffer with South Today every evening...

He takes an active interest in my vaping (with all the deliveries he has been making lately!) and always checks I am still off the smokes and congratulates me on sticking with it! So kudos to RM from me too, I have had brilliant service from them

my post woman on occasions likes to play a game with us called lets give you all the mail for the whole cul-de-sacs and see if you can do a better job of it LOL! Before I bought this place I seriously considered buying the house in the street next to my mum's that shares the same house number as the postie regularly mixes the letters up so that way we would both have the reassurance that even if the letters went astray we would know where they were and be able to get them

The mail round my way is pretty poor, but I don't blame the posties. Usually it is Ok, but each time the regular guy gores on holiday, or moves on, it goes up the wall.
One time, after a lot of misdeliveries to my place I collared the postie and he explained this was a 'spare' round (i.e. nobodies assigned round), and wasn't popular as it comprises a lot of isolated pockets of residantial properties. That means it takes along time to walk for relatively little post. In addition, they are 'slimming down' prior to a planned sell-off, which means too much post for too few staff, time and motion studies and all the other stuff guaranteed to screw up a perfectly good service in the name of efficiency savings.
He himself was getting out, and predictably, the service deteriorated when he did.
So most of the problems you experience are caused by the private sector managers brought in to 'fix' things. The poor guys on the ground are those struggling to do a pretty tough job under challenging circumstance, so hats off to them.

A bit of a love/hate relationship for me with the Royal Mail. The guys who collect and deliver seem to go out of their way to help, but the ones in the Ivory Towers are nothing but incompetant fools IMO. I'm amazed that non of the Senior Directors resigned before Xmas, when they (in their wisdom) decided to upgrade the whole of the online system at the busiest time of year with no back up in place for when it went wrong. Weeks of on/off access to the online accounts system caused absolute chaos and is undoubtedly the reason why some people won't have got their expected goods. When something like that happens, the Senior Management should be held fully accountable and fall on their sword. It's making me angry just typing this >
