70% more tax on tobacco products So, if a pack of fags in the UK currently costs on average £8 this will triple to more than £24 per pack What about nicotine, and NRT products containing nicotine - will these be subject to a 70% rise in tax ??? No wonder they kicked the public out of the meeting This is just horrendous Edit: Actually the above figures don't work out to be £24, not according to my calculator, but in the article it shows a pack of fags more than tripling in price. My calculator shows a 70% tax rise would put an £8 pack of fags at approx £13.60 per pack - still a horrendous rise.

that maths doesn't add up..... an extra 70% would make a packet of £8 fags be £13.60. Think the reporter needs to check his sums...

I've just been giving this some more thought yeah brain going into over-drive lol Now if cigarettes do jump in price like that how many more people will switch to vaping instead, giving us vapers a bigger support group in which to fight all the vaping battles, could be a good thing for us - maybe

A packet of fags are £8.
I used to smoke 40 superking a day. £16 say.
The amount I vape comes in about 27p a day.
All my smoking mates know what vaping costs me but they are still smokers.
Yes, if the price goes up, some may decide to change over to vaping, but price is not that whole answer.

toots I think you missed this bit " If they successfully pass the reckless international tobacco tax requirements, the delegates intend to turn their attention towards slapping worldwide regulations on e-cigarettes"

Yeah I did see that bit, but that surely would come in at a later date, by then maybe our vaping community will have grown, whether more voices would make a difference though is another matter. And I suppose those regulations on e-cigs would also be discussed behind closed doors, public & media thrown out once again All this sort of thing just wants to make you throw in the towel, I felt sick when I first read the article just knowing how the whole world is being run these days. It is so similar to a scenario (albeit on a much smaller scale) we are facing over here in Tenerife with the management of 2 complexes where we own Apartments, the corruption & secretiveness that is going on by the same management company running both complexes is diabolically unbelievable, and is hitting our pockets real hard, all owners' pockets.

So what party in the ~UK is going to agree to let anyone else set UK taxes? VAT may be an EU tax, but we still get to decide the rate......with an election looming the WHO are just making fools of themselves if they think anyone anywhere will entertain this notion.

Fags at £15-£20 a pack.
Expect a new sort of crime wave. Ordinary people either going deeply into the black market, or just robbing their neighbours.
Seriously..?
