My favourite toffee from childhood was a soft toffee in a paper wrap of white with blue lines, twisted around the sweet. My next door neighbour used to keep a bag of these in his jacket pocket and would throw them into our garden when we were out playing for us to find. I got so highly attuned to the sound of a toffee falling into the undergrowth, but I'm sure there must be some still in the ground somewhere. If you live in Hayle, check your gardens for toffee trees!! I used to live in Hayle....never found any toffees in the garden :-(

Sadly my mission was thwarted by a giant gold spaceship that appears to have landed in Hayle - I heard tell the interdimensional creatures are called The Asdarians.....all most peculiar. I think they came here for the toffee trees, they've harvested them all and plan on re-packaging and selling them on for profit. It's outrageous!!

Don't knock the Asdarians, spacey, my wife's one of them (where needs must, etcetera!). That's the last I'll be seeing of my toffee trees then Do you think they have melted all the toffee down and painted the outside of the new store in the mixture? There is a faint but distinctly sweet spicy smell in the air at the moment, thought it was the hot Mediteranean air we were getting blown our way, perhaps it's they bleddy Asdarians

lol....had a funny conversation about that new store with the mayor of hayle on FB, A few people in hayle were'nt happy about its location & he didnt like my suggestion that deals must have been done behind closed doors for asda to secure that location.

From what I can gather, the Town Council were almost over a barrel because the only way they could fund a renovation of the quays, part of the Mining Heritage, was to accept Asda on the condition that they would do the necessary works to stabilise and repoint the quays (which they have now completed, and they look fantastic!). I believe some dredging of the harbour and channels out into St. Ives Bay will be done too, no mean undertaking, but should ensure that Hayle Harbour is more accessible by the summer yacht trade again now they know they can get into the harbour without going aground!

Oooh I love The Asdarians now I know they have a toffee coated spaceship - I shall be defecting from Planet Mozzers forthwith (in all honesty, now I've got used to seeing it there I'm looking forward to it opening, am hoping it's the same size as the Penryn one with the big upper level bit.) Q I'm thinking of ordering this Flavor West Toffee Dream Cream will mix a small sample stand alone and then try variations of caramel/butterscotch/fresh cream with it...

Exactly Andy, theres always sweetners added to the deal where these big stores are concerned, and why not they make enough profit from us, when I lived in hayle Peter De Savary was claiming he wanted to improve the area but it all went pete tong.....talking about sweetners & getting back on topic, that looks interesting spacey, might order some too, thanks for the link...

Sorry to disappoint you spacey, but according to the OH who is training at Falmouth before moving down to Hayle next week, it is a small branch, certainly smaller than Falmouth (not allowed to call it Penryn, although it's in the town!).] markus - you will I'm sure remember the wall collapse quite near the viaduct - that's all now reinstated and I still can't get used to seeing it all in a straight line! A glimpse of what it used to be like 150 years ago. You wouldn't recognise North Quay, over where the power station used to be. That has all been 'transformed' and is now a sea of gravel and concrete. I'm sure something will be built there at some point, but it's lost all its faded glory look, and replaced with a tarmac access road, oh, and Pay and Display parking all year around. Also getting back on topic, I have tried the small LorAnn Traditional Toffee, and it's quite potent stuff, although a bit pricey for an 8ml bottle (it is glass, though!).

Oh, nice one Perpetua, I must admit I thought that an 8ml bottle must be more aimed at the cake-baking fraternity rather than us vapers! Bookmarked for future reference!

Oooo, Perpetua, you are a very naughty lady sending me all these cheeky links - I can feel my purchasing fingers twitching already I'll have to have a check and see how my concentrate supplies are - you can never have too many, and with the wife vaping now, I can sneak a few more in under the radar by simply stating that they are to mix up her favourites!!
