Inspired by someone's post elsewhere I have decided to create the PERFECT toffee and I'd like all you mixers to participate. The next three posts will be 'chalkboards' for 3 different kinds of toffee (because we all have a different idea of what the perfect toffee is)
I will put all of my experiments & updates, along with any of your experiments on those posts, you put your post on here as normal & I will copy it to the relevant post.
All recipes will be shown, along with observations, so you can use one of these as a base to create your own variation.
All you will then need to do is keep checking back on posts 2-4 to find out how we are getting along.
Post your recipes on this thread, I will do the rest.
NB. This is NOT just trying to get you to mix, It's more about what YOU think a perfect toffee should be, what is your favourite toffee?, once we have a list of toffees to recreate we can then use this 'thinktank' to make them, even if you're not a mixer tell us what YOU would like to see, then we can try to make it (by 'we' I mean the AAEC community)

Toffee 1 - Quality Street 'flat' toffee
My first attempt, I am calling it ToffeeQ, only mixed it last night so it still has to steep but initial impressions are VERY good, BUT it has a very slight 'perfumy' aftertaste, not much but I will iron it out. Let me put it another way, if I had bought this premade I would have said it was wonderful BUT because I'm a mixer I know I can improve it. The original recipe follows, I will add any variations immediately afterwards.
Butterscotch (OneOnOne) 8% Caramel Candy (TPA/TFA) 10% Bavarian Cream TPA 4%

Toffee 2 - Bonfire Toffee (suggested by dreamylittledream ) Well if we're on a toffee quest I would like Bonfire Toffee. Yes that is a treacle toffee, but not any old treacle toffee - its the one thats chrystalised and more like a boiled sweet than a toffee (you can't really chew it - well you sort of can if you melt it in your mouth by drinking steaming hot coffee at the same time) - anyway I loves the stuff and tis seasonal too so go go my clever mixers and I shall follow gratefully in your pioneering footsteps...

I'll have a go later today Q ........just seen this thread. But how long a steep will be needed? Or how long should we all wait before our final thoughts?

Sorry sleedale I dont think I explained myself very well, I wasn't badgering people to mix (yet) I was more asking the question "What would you LIKE mixed" My idea of a perfect toffee (QS flat toffee) may not be everyone elses cup of tea, so before I (or anyone else) can create a perfect toffee we have to know what the perfect toffee is. Anyone can get involved in this, mixer or not, my first attempt was purely what I thought would go together well to make a good toffee, Joe Bloggs might think that you need to use some Treacle flavour, great but tell us here. Having said that, anyone else who wants to get on the mixing trail to FIND this perfect toffee is more than welcome to join in as well

Ahhhhhh I understand now Q I'm a bit slow today.....clocks and all that! I'll still have a go though. I love the traditional buttery chewy toffee type......the type that pulls your fillings out.......although a honey or treacle toffee might be good, or maybe a coffee toffee flavour........mmmmmmmnow I'm thinking

Hmmm the perfect toffee?? Well Q QS flat toffee's are indeed damn near perfect, but I also remember that I used to LOVE higland toffee bars when I was younger. Problem is that I can't actually remember what they tasted like - just that I loved them ??? I think my ideal toffee vape would be a clotted cream type toffee

I made up a toffee blend as an experiment last week. It was:
CCW Butterscotch 8% CCW Caramel 8% CCW Sticky Toffee Pudding 8%
It will be some time before I sample it though.

Its worth trying a drop or 2 now, if there is anything obviously lacking then you have the chance to modify slightly (or make another batch) otherwise you'll be in for a long wait Did you have any particular toffee in mind when you mixed it? redz
