tag stuff

Help please. Given I am a self confessed technophobe who has only just moved on from a clockwork house brick.please what does tagged mean? Seen people tag my post or comment. What happens there? . You will get fed up with my non Techno savvy anal retention but as I said at the outset, bear with me, many have to!!!!!!!! Thanx. L

If someone wants to make you aware of a post they are mentioning you in, they can tag you by either: typing the @ sign in front of your user name, with no spaces; clicking on the little icon in the reply box of a person with an @sign or hovering over your user name and hitting Alt and left mouse click.

These tags mean you get a notification so you can see you've been tagged

lister tagging as lairey says is really just letting you know that someone is referring to something you have posted or maybe to something you may be interested in reading

I was wondering what all this tagging was about. I'll have to give it a try. lairey tagged me in another post. Although I'm still not sure what the benefit is. But I'm new to this stuff. Never been on a forum before that does tagging.

The benefit is that I got a notification telling me that you'd tagged me Bobsbeer, so I can come bck to the thread and reply

Bobsbeer the main benefits are to let you know someone has replied to something you have posted, or to draw your attention to something you may be interested in reading

Think of it as being in a crowded party with loads of conversations going on around you. You can't (and don't want to) listen to them all. But then someone thinks you might be interested in a particular topic, or has something to say about a comment you made earlier. They call "cooeee bobsbeer" and you look up at the sound of your name above the hubub and go to hear what they have to say. You've just been tagged!
