I have a friend who would like to pack up smoking, she wants some advice and has asked if we could have a chat sometime. I'm not really up to date on the stuff available for new vapers so thought I get myself armed with some info in advance.
I began with an Evod starter kit and added a mini protank and spinner soon after. This had many shortcomings and I didn't find it statisfactory so moved on quickly. Having had that experience if I were starting today first on my list would be an Eleaf istick, and I think that will be my advice to her. It's only a battery and costs a little more than a complete Evod kit, but the savings from a week of not smoking would pay for it.
So what to top it off? I don't know a Emow from an Aero or anything else, so need some help here. Obviously I don't know, and nor will she, if a cool or warm vape is preferable but I guess from a beginners point of view it should be as leak and faff free as possible, plus easy to maintain. Will spending a max of around £20 see her with a good one? Once she has a few heads I'll be able to re-coil them because I don't think she'll want the inconvenience of that, but who knows.
So what do you think? I wish I'd gone for a more intermediate setup from the start, but is it a wise recommendation? It's not the cheapest option (but still only a couple of weeks worth of fags) but I feel it would be money well spent and good value.
Cheers,
Chris.

Cheers Perpetua I've had a quick look and it seems to be very highly regarded. Rebuilding looks straight forward if a little challenging.

Mini nautilus and the iStick would be a great combo. If she doesn't want a box(ish) mod then there is also the aspire CF battery which I have heard good things about.

That's something I'll have to find out when I see her. To be honest I avoided boxes for a long time mainly due to the size and clumpy feel of them. The Vaporshark rDNA changed my opinion. I have an istick on it's way so will be able to show her that.. The CF looks the part though Marcus and is another option.

I've been giving new vapers my old Evods but now I'm not sure that's really doing them a favour.
Angie & I moved on from them pretty quickly and are now both settled with vape gear albeit different stuff.
The next newbie to ask me is going to be offered the loan of 2 x 2250mAh Egos and a Nautilus Mini.
The Nautilus Mini s now the only tank I use. Once I learnt not to over tighten them and to prime well before firing a new head or wick they have been trouble free.
I recoil the heads with a microcoil & cotton tape. I've had 2 heads with the same problem. My son drills out 2 of the 4 holes with a 2mm drill. The other 2 holes on the problem heads weren't covered by the inner metal sleeve and were flooding. I've read some people block these holes with cocktail sticks.

Yes know what you mean smifee personally I wouldn't start with Evods now but that's with hindsight, and you never know what path your going to take at the beginning. I think The istick is a good choice because it packs a big punch for such a small and attractive package. I would have thought it would last her a day, but telling her she really needs to buy two might put her off As I said I'm not really conversant with the latest heads, are the holes you mention juice feeds for the wick?

I do see the attraction of the iStick and an old Evod or Ego would be OK as a backup. The BVC heads have 4 small holes for juice to seep through to the filler material. When you drill 2 opposing ones out to 2mm just check that the other 2 are covered by the metal lining. With the 2 I had trouble with I could see daylight when I held them up to the light.

The iStick battery run time is amazing @scooby for such a dinky thing . . . once your friend has one, I'd be surprised if it didn't convince them to buy another!

Thanks to my friend asking for advice and the help I've had here I've learnt a lot, cheers everyone. I've also spent some £££ and ordered the kit mentioned above. It'll give me a chance to try it, I can then loan it to her and if it suits she can have. If not I'll just have to keep it

Eleaf istick is definitely a good choice, it's too hot now, you should have a try.

I'd also give thought to the protank 2 with the additional AFC ring , and the unicoil from virtual vape. Tbh I'm using the protank more than nautilus, kayfun, rose. It is a much airier vape than the nautilus when you have it opened up. Think your on the right path with the I stick. Don't have one yet but I'm definitely after 1 lol.

Well my first experience with 'budget' atomisers for awhile is not good. The upper hardware will not unscrew from the pyrex tank on the Mini Nautilus. So it's a waiting game now, having to request a return form, wait for their reply, send it back and wait for them to approve a replacement Edit: If all else fails get the instructions out. The bottom hardware has to be removed first...Doh
