Its paperwhite - you can read it anywhere you can read a book... including the bath xD How does the screen work then? Covered in sun lotion, smears, beer , tapas, water, and in direct sunlight?
I was more skeptical than you believe me. I was bought it as a birthday gift a few years ago. Took me a while to pick it up but when i did, haven't put it down. The screen is e-ink. Its not like the screen of a computer. I have an old version with a keyboard, has been like a tank for me, I travel with work, sometimes for weeks at a time, this thing is awesome trust me

Without it I would have gone blind but having it causes its own problems What this means now is that I have to wear sunglasses, in bright sunlight I can see nothing without them. Think Bono he has the same issue. In dim lighting such as a pub I can not read anything, as people at vape meets will agree with lol. Energy lightbulbs are a no go lol

Mrs Bad said the same, again and again and again, she is now on her second Kindle, takes it everywhere with her and loves them. I was exactly the same... hundreds of books in this house, some in a number of bookcases, most in boxes as I really struggle to part with them... BUT, my first ever Christmas present from Mr Lairey was a Kindle and it is still the best present he has ever bought me. I'm predominantly a suspense/thriller reader with David Baldacci being my current favourite, although I think I have now read all of his, so looking for recommendations folks? (forget Lee Child, James Patterson, Michael Connolly, Harlan Coben, John Grisham as I think I have read all of theirs too) Oh, and for those of you looking for a new author, CJ Box is a great thriller writer with a bit of a difference Off The top of my head try John Sandford, Mark Billingham, Stuart Macbride, Jo Nesbo, My particular favourite Steig Larsson ( The girl with the dragon Tattoo series)

Oooh, just gotta hope either a tourist leaves one behind or one gets put on our new bookcase in the lobby Thought I had a copy but I don't if I see it I'll grab it for you and send it over. Just don't hold your breath for a while Ok, cheers @spikeyfridge, not holding my breath though lol. If you do find a copy I'd get you to send it to someone in England to bring over to me on their next visit, would save on postage costs

Just started another book by Mark Burnell called Chameleon - says it's a thriller Don't think I've read any of his books before.

I used to be a member of an online book swap site. That was interesting. You only paid postage. Acquired a fair few books this way

I am a voracious reader and like many of you a "keeper" of books, I hate hate hate parting with them and I do reread them many times, when we were posted from Hereford to Cornwall 20 years ago the married quarter we were going into was tiny and had next to no space for any book shelves, certainly not enough for my 2,000 books that I had at the time (no joke) so I very very reluctantly invited a buyer from one of the Hay on Wye bookshops to come and have a look at them and he bought about 800 off me - it broke my heart. I sold loads more at boot sales etc. and eventually got it down to around 1000 hubby had to put up with every inch of wall holding bookcases piled high lol plus loads in boxes in the attic. Once we moved back to Lyneham and into a slightly larger quarter I was able to turn the "spare" bedroom into a library/office and the books crept back up again, I had 2 built in double wardrobes filled to bursting with books piled on books crammed into every inch of space, wall to wall shelves and still had piles of books on the floor everywhere. Hubby used to half joke half serious that one day the floor would collapse and the whole lot would come crashing down into the lounge below.
When hubby retired from the RAF and we bought this bungalow it became very apparent I was yet again going to have to downsize I was probably around the 3000 mark which included the 1000 books I couldn't begin to bear to part with the first time I'd downsized, however by this time I had my Kindle to mitigate the "pain" so months before I had to finally start the downsizing I started downloading as many of the books as I could, I have gigabytes of ebooks stored on hard drive - thousands of books. I kept my favorites that I was sentimental about, and then decided to keep only those I knew I wouldn't be able to get as an ebook, my "collections" and those which are collectors items or "valuable". I STILL have over 1000 books, as I sit here typing this I did a rough count of how many are on the shelves next to me and came up with 600 lol so actually its probably more like 1500 as there are loads still in boxes in the garage that I really don't have room for on a shelf.
I read on average a book a day - I swore up down and sideways I would never get a Kindle I hated the whole idea of it - now you rarely see me without it lol Apart from allowing me to keep and regain many of my much loved books I enjoy discovering new authors so I use Amazon "free" books and a couple of sites which list free book offers and download a dozen or so at a time, lots will end up with me finishing them and deleting them and noting not to bother with the author again but more than I ever expected I have discovered some self published fiction writers who are either rather good or have the potential to be one day with a bit more polish. You have to take the rough with the smooth and there are occasionally some books even I cannot bare to finish, but in the main I've discovered some really enjoyable reads.

Enjoyed your post Sorry you had to part with all of those books though Im jealous you have the time for a book a day, I'm lucky if I get time for a few chapters at night xD I finished book 1 from a song of ice and fire last night, its kind of weird that I have seen the tv series so I know whats coming but at the same time the book gives you so much more so it doesn't feel like I'm just going through the same story again. I just hope I can catch up and get past where the tv series is before it starts again!
