I made a prototype earlier from delrin and brass rod and to be honest they're not that great. They work much better with very thick wire like in the video but not so good with finer wires.
Made it with 3mm one side and 2mm on the other, also 2 short rods on the other section different measuements from center for different wire gauges.

So what gauge wire did u use and what guage would you recommend.

I've only got 0.20, 0.34 and 0.5. The largest was good, smallest was pretty bad and the medium so-so. Just as easy winding a coil by hand to be honest.

Maybe knurl the centre and make them double ended so that one pair will do two sizes

and also the mandrel & grip doesn't have to be that long, most people would just hold it in their fingers - what's the maximum wraps (length of mandrel) that you would realistically need (1.5"), so double ended it could be 4.5" total, with possibly a cover over the end not being used, so idiots don't stab themselves.

I'd like to see him do a video wrapping .20 kanthal with it. He's wrapping 0.65 kanthal there which of course works very well with those, not the same with finer wires though.

I have to reflect the opinion of Mev and others. I can't honestly see this working well for wires less than 0.4mm due to the springy nature of the wire we use.

However - I wouldn't mind being proved wrong

A thanks for the idea for making them double ended wouldn't of gone amiss
