AT present i am decorating the kitchen and the walls have the imo dreaded woodchip wallpaper all over the walls. The walls are made out of plasterboard!! Anyone know of a tried and tested way of removing woodchip wallpaper that has also been painted without damaging the plasterboard? I read you can scour the wallpaper and then soak it with water but surely that will also scour the plasterboard aswell Any thoughts?

A wallpaper stripper ( steam ) will work wonders.
Otherwise bloody hard work to get painted twelve million times woodchip off.

A wallpaper stripper ( steam ) will work wonders. Read bad reports with steam wallpaper strippers, i.e takes the top layer of plaster with it

Read bad reports with steam wallpaper strippers, i.e takes the top layer of plaster with it They can't be using them right, I used one on plasterboard walls and was the best thing ever, the trick is you get it steamed up, not hold it in one place for 10 mins. I scored it, held the steamer on a minute or so moved to next spot etc, no problems at all.

Steam stripper is the one Super-Shiny - if it takes the top layer of plaster away - the plaster wasn't good enough in the first place, otherwise should be fine.

Could always use a thick lining paper and paper over it if you dont want to steam it,if you do steam it and thinking of papering, give walls a quick swish down with some vinyl silk watered down a bit, will help removal of paper later on

Hammer strip the whole lot out and re plaster board. If your really care full use a spiked roller to prick holes in wood chip paper, then steam off but be prepared to mix a bug batch of Polly filler up.

Super-Shiny been there, woodchip is the worst ever You need steam stripper and patience but it is likely that some parts will need a skim, especially if it has been painted over numerous times. My first house someone had glossed the woodchip on stairs and landing i moved rather than deal with it
