They are pretty good, the main reason being that they not only perforate it, they score the top of the paper as well, which allows more of the liquid to penetrate the woodchip and get underneath it. I have a steamer but I found it wasn`t nearly as effective as one of those pressure sprayers that you get in B and Q etc for the garden. Almost fill it up with petty hot water, add a spoonful of Fairy liquid, pressurise the container and spray the scored and perforated woodchip with a mist of the solution. Dont put so much on as it runs down the wall. When you think it can take it, spray it again and then a third time if it will take it. Give it time to soak in. Then get the scraper out. It may sound a bit long winded, but it will be quicker than a steamer, more liquid will get under the paper.

God knows what you were removing, but believe me a black and decker wallpaper steamer is all that is needed, easy, quick no hassle, and doesn't soak the carpet

If you get a steamer don't get one with the water tank and steam head in one they are heavy, tiring and need refilling (waiting) too often.

Can't really add anything than what been mentioned already but wood chip will become fashionable again one day, not sure when and what century but another option wood (would) be is to keep it up and paint over it and hope for the best its sooner rather than later.
Hope your well Shiny

I think the pros just put a steamer in the room and shut the door for 20 / 30 mins and thats it. just peels off as easy as that. you will always struggle with the D.i.y stuff with woodchip.
