So after getting fed up with one of my kayfun clones giving a burnt cotton taste every so often and a day where it would just not behave, I decided to do a little playing around and this is what I came up with... I have had the most amazing flavour (seriously!) much more so than when i do a contact coil which i didnt think possible, absolutely no dry hits and no burnt hits going two days strong on a coil gunking juice BUT it pops and spits like there is no tomorrow, so much so that the juice burns my lips or pops in the back of my throat after a couple of hours vaping my tongue feels like its been through the wars. This happends more often than not! I've turned up the heat, turned down the heat, cut a small portion off the tails of the wick and still the same Any thoughts/ideas? I love it so much I may do my other Kayfuns like this if i can stop it being so angry at me! Tia x

What ohm coil is it and is your reading right? It could be that its to low maybe. I haven't really got the experience to help more but this is the only thing I can think of as you have already turned the watts your vaping at down.

Would a small flavour wick over the coil help stop the spitting?

I did wonder about that Greigster but thought that it may mute the flavour or the vapour based on rebuilding protanks maybe worth a shot though

Thats strange Mrsmac, especially at such low power. I normally run kayfuns at around 15w and don't get any spitting although I only use microcoils. Only fix I can think of if the flavour wick doesn't work or mutes flavour would be to install a tiny demister under your drip tip If you have any SS mesh you could cut out a little circle of it and pop it in the drip tip hole underneath your drip tip, this would stop the liquid reaching your mouth whilst allowing the vapour through. Bit of a faff but might sort it if all else fails. Maybe a holepunch is about the right side to cut a little mesh disc.

I may try fiddling about with the amount of cotton, i think it is about right but my research says it may be overwicking. When saturated, it isnt bulging anywhere but will try with slightly less and again with slightly more. I am also awaiting some screws so I can try the build again with more accurate spacing instead of freehand

It is indeed, I have been slowly opening it up lol as I prefer a tighter draw but i must admit, it did help with the noise aspect, going to loosen it again actually as my tongue is hurting I was never one to remove the screw and more one to tighten it down lol...let me give that a go

Yes the tighter you have the draw the more juice you will siphon up the juice channels to the wick. The other thing you could do if you like an airy draw is increase the VG content of your juice, thicker juice needs more suck to get it up the channels. It's all a bit of a balancing act.

Mrsmac did you fire the coil before putting the cotton in. sharp spitting can often be sign of a hotspot. even if you ant microcoil (squeezing it touching) firing a couple of times and working out the hotspots by tweaking can really sort you out. assuming its that

I had a similar thing happen with a kayfun once and using a slightly thicker wick solved it. I have no explanation as to why that should be, but am pretty sure a slightly thicker piece of cotton will fix it

I belave you have stumbled on what peps call a sleeper coil norm used in dripping the flavor wick is prob best way to calm it down try a wee bit of silica as it will stay in one bit longer

Mrsmac Hi just noticed nobody suggesting this yet but have you tried the same coil on a different mod I recently received my i stick and every coil I tried was too hot or burning. After reading a few posts on here and on other groups I noticed a lot of people with same issue and said to solve this to bump up ohm's. I have had to bump up my coils to 2.2 ohms for it to work properly on my i stick. I tried 1.1 , 1.2, 1.3 ,etc finally settling at 2.2. .Hope this helps.
