Hi everyone - found this place after posting on the MoneySavingExpert forum (Green1970) although I'd seen Chrissie before on the UK board of ecf. This place is lovely, far better for people new to vaping from what I can see.
I looked into ecigs after ordering the elites Groupon (I know, I know :-)) and realised I'd made a mistake so ordered the Riva 1100 from vapeescape (thank you Jason, arrived next day!).
Here's my newbie questions which I hope you can help with.
1) I also ordered cartomisers but struggle with removing the white bung thing all the time - can I just order a drip tip and just easily yank that out when I need to.
2) I used to smoke about 15 a day (JPS Menthol or L&B Menthol) so tried HS Menthol which was lovely. I have no clue how often I should be topping up though. I would normally put about 20 drops in in the morning and then another 10 or so drops every few hours once it seemed to taste not so strong. Would a clearomiser be a better idea and just a single day fill-up. Read some cracking stories about the glass so a bit scared.
3) Unfortunately, hated the toffee popcorn with a passion so I don't know how I'm going to get on with flavours. I love a massive menthol hit so can anyone recommend anything stronger than HS Menthol which is nice but I want more menthol.
Have been off the fags since the day it arrived (9 days ago) so doing great so far and have no intention of smoking cigs again, can't believe how much nicer it is than smoking and the fact that I can do it indoors and it's not as bad for my health is just amazing to me. I worry that when the number of vapers starts to overtake the number of smokers, that the government are going to step in and make it unaffordable with less choice so may well stock up big time over the coming months.
Thanks everyone, look forward to being part of the community here.
Jo

Hi jo welcome With the issue of the white bung yes you can just replace it with a drip tip as you say making it easyer And I totaly love menthol as well but I am currently sticking to hs menthol I love the taste , now for a stronger menthol hit I would say menthol tobac from james over at paradise vapes so far that's been the strongest menthol hit I've gotten only thing is I found it a little less tasteful than hs menthol although still very acceptable , I'd order a 5 ml bottle from him and try the strawberry menthol while your there (50/50) free p&p as well can't go wrong I'll leave someone else to answer your other questions

If I were you I'd remove the white bung thing and shove a drip tip on asap!!!! Drip tips are easy enuf to get..PM me your snail addy and I'll send you one.... Someone sent me my first one when I was a newbie so least I can do Remove the white bung thing with a knitting needle, thin crochet hook, paper clip - whatever you have to hand.. Sorry can't help on the menthol side of things jane PS. I have no idea what 20 drops is in ml. I vape about 3 ml a day and am patiently waiting on a chibi tank from Parkes vaping to save topping up all the time. Get a punch from siam mods and you're laughing

Hello & welcome Jo It's so good to hear you are enjoying vaping so much (BTW, I'm Isaac-The-Red on the MoneySavingExpert forum ) You will actually find a drip tip to be more comfortable to use as well as all the other advantages they have. Re menthol juice, you can add a few menthol crystals to boost the flavour. Not sure of quantities myself & also can't remember if they dissolve better in PG or VG juices, but Perpetua or someone else will come along later & let you know

I am also a newbie and a lot is trial and error, but I agree, get yourself a drip tip, comfortable on the mouth and easy to put on and take off. I got Menthol initially and there was just something not quite right. I then realised that the Menthols are exactly that, Menthol. If you are wanting something slightly resembling a menthol cigarette then I would say give paradise vape's Menthol tobacco a shot, it is a nice blend between tobacco and menthol

For clearomisers I'd strongly recommend these ones: freedomvape.co.uk/shop/article_1049/XL-Ultimate-Clearomizers.html?shop_param=cid%3D7%26aid%3D1049%26 (use the code JAN15 for 15% off too) Clearomisers had cracking issues until this version. The casing is much harder now and I've used a wide variety of juices in these with no problem at all. I have them in my pocket all day most days and they're on the base so well they haven't come off either. The only trouble with these is that you might have to take the seals out to get it to wick optimally. What I do is remove all the seals and the one that sits over the cup inside, I cut the slots into /\ shapes then put it back on. That way it wicks very well and will vape like a champ. It's a one time job and you can reuse that seal you cut on a new one or just cut the next one. It takes me less than 2 minutes to do it now and one CE2 lasts me well over a month at a time. You will need a syringe to fill these but at a 2ml-ish capacity you should be good for a full day. 20 drops is roughly equal to 1ml so you are looking at about 1.5ml useage a day out of the cartos you have now. If you get those CE2s and have any problem using them let me know and I'll sort you out

For my penny worth i found adding a tiny pinch of menthol crystals is very over powering but lovely just buy them from boots etc and add to your flavour bottle put the bottle in warm water and shake every now and then until they dissolve, let the juice cool and then its ready for vaping. Be warned though you only need the tiniest of pinches added to your juice. Welcome by the way. we were all new here once and everyone is so helpful.

As far as adding menthol crystals goes, they will dissolve quite readily in e-cig liquids (shake vigorously a few times) but they are VERY strong so I'd only put a small bit of crystal into a bottle of liquid to try this out the first time. You could always add another bit if you decided you wanted even more menthol but obviously you can't take it out again if you overdo it. If you are looking at James's liquids as recommended above, he also sells menthol crystals paradisevapeuk.vstore.ca/product_info.php/pName/menthol-crystals/cName/diy-accessories they are £2 for 1/4oz which will go quite a long way, or you might find some at your local pharmacy. Take things at your own pace and let yourself get used to vaping - you should find that you will get used to the differences between vaping and smoking in a reasonably short while. You will become used to how often you need to top up and so forth to keep things working well. It definitely IS a little different and there is a learning curve period we have all had to go through. Sounds as if you have made a very good start though - well done. You can always come and ask here if something puzzles you, as you can see people are always happy to help and share tips (like using a crochet hook to remove carto caps easily!). Welcome to vaping and the forum!
