Just thought I'd share this with you....... Bought son a car and he's 22, so needed to get best deal for his age group. Went on the insurance comparison websites and then tried Aviva and Direct Line, which were looooooads more expensive. Asked OH to check with his insurers as son had previously been a named driver on his policy, so thought it may help. As OH was on the phone to them, he was struggling to give the spec on the car as we hadn't picked it up yet so he didn't have the paperwork and I had the details in another room. 'It's okay' says blokey, 'I can see you've been on the comparison websites and it's a Daewoo Matiz, so I have the details here'. What on earth? Is nothing sacred? I'd had to create accounts with secure passwords on these websites - what a crock! Would you consider this to be a security breach? I think it's a flippin cheek.

Once you put your details into a price comparison site , as soon as you hit any insurers site it actually flags them and gives them your details , I was comparing 2 or 3 different options for my house insurance recently and 1 of the companies I was looking at actually rang me whilst I was comparing , no bad thing for me I got a fantastic deal on my house insurance , we live in a world of technology so now nothing is sacred , if you have an iphone apple know where you are at any time if you have location services switched on

That's happened to me to. I was doing my car insurance and the phone rang and he said they were specialists in insuring Mercedes and could he see if he could give me a better quote, needless to say he couldn't and i went with one of the bigger companies. On a plus note i did get a free meerkat

I am clearly so naive! I was irritated that he could do that so readily. Mercedes? Cool! I wouldn't have got a phone call from it as I put our number as 0000000000 until I was ready to commit to buy. I didn't get a Meerkat. or Nectar points. :-[ Interestingly though, Admiral gave us the best price on each website, though it still varied wildly. I have to say I HATE the way everyone has access to everything. I got some random post with details for the NEC Home Exhibition in Birmingham - whaaaat? Where did they get my name and address from?

Further to that though, Storm. I hadn't hit the site of my OH's insurers as I don't think they are on there at all. But he still accessed the details.

I've had the same Rolo, with car insurance and pet insurance sites . . . one car insurer even phoned me on my landline, after seeing I'd browsed a comparison site. And I didn't get a free Meerkat.

In the end it's YOUR choice as to whether you wish to input your personal details on ANY site , if you read the T&C's you are more than likely agreeing to your details being passed on to 3rd parties , that's the way it is these days unfortunately , you have to read the T&C's and opt out if you don't wish this to happen

I do think most people aren't aware of this, which is why I thought I'd share it with you.
TBH, I don't read the T&Cs, but I always check/uncheck the boxes that ask 'can we share with carefully selected third parties' and 'can we contact you by email/phone blah blah'.
MY OH's insurer was definitely a third party. Flippin cheek.
