Is it any battery container or is it a specific class of battery container?

anything really... I think the term comes from the early days where people were Mod-ifying torches etc into ecigs.

MOD – (Stands for "Modified") Are electronic cigarette devices that use removable, rechargeable batteries. Most electronic cigarette batteries have the physical battery permanently enclosed in a casing. The entire unit is then charged as a whole. Mods, on the other hand, allow for the batteries to be removed from the casing and charged separately. Although mods are generally much thicker and larger than standard electronic cigarettes, they do have their benefits. Mods generally last much longer than standard batteries before needing to be recharged. Also, the ability to remove the batteries allows the user to have a set charging while the other is in use, thereby permitting the user to always have a fully-charged battery at his/her disposal

As MeV said, it's routes are from modified torches, in the days when only small cigalike stick batteries Where commercially available. So it can be used fairly freely to mean the battery end.

So I think it can be included as a mod, however most people will automatically think of something bigger, such as an MVP or Istick for instance, both having fixed internal batteries. So you can't claim that as a defining feature.

Yeah I also don't think the batteries being removable or not comes into it. Mod is just short for modified so it's kind of an out-dated term these day really but it stuck.

Not looking to argue anything, just laying out some of the history of the term. its not managed to gain an "official" definition, used by different people to mean different things. Which is my important point. almost all of the language of vaping is used in different ways by different people at different times. makes it all a lot more confusing for new vapers, but I can't see any easy way to resolve that other than keeping it in mind when discussing things. the whole language is evolving as fast as the devices.

Me neither. Was just trying to answer the orginal question as to what the term might mean in todays vaping world so a newby could get an idea what the difference is. After all most people either talk about a mechanical mod or a box mod, both apart from a few exceptions have a removable battery. I think there are very few people who really refer to something with a fixed battery like a spinner etc as a mod. But i have to agree that the term is starting to lose its true definition.
