Hi all This may be the beginning of something expensive, but watching vaping friends and looking at what some of you have recently received for Christmas, I'm now wondering if a box mod might be the way to go. My dilemma is: which one!? I have no desire to vape to amazingly low sub-ohm builds, or cloud-chase, but seeing that these type of mods are becoming more and more popular, I don't want to be using the vaping equivalent of Betamax, when everyone else is using VHS!! Do I go for something that takes two batteries, or a mod which has one on-board battery charged through a micro-USB port? Do I really need 260w (!!) or will 30w suffice? Temperature control - this technology confuses me, I have just got used to Kanthal and really don't want to start all over again with mickel wire. Help!!!

Personally i would go down the dna40 road. You can carry on using kanthal but you have the option to try the temp contol nickel builds if you decide to be more adventurous. Win win situation

Have to agree with @windows about temperature control, especially if you are spending a lot, it's like traction control & anti-locking breaks on a car IMO. If you just want something cheap & have plenty of > 20 A 18650 I am going to try a Cloupor Mini, have no idea how good it is, but the form factor is spot on from me.

If your up to marrying pairs of battery's dual battery mods can give good battery life the sigelei 100w plus is a good option all the features you need and the safety features work as advertised quality is a lot better then it was even a year ago. If your not up for the hassle of marrying pairs and rotating them then the ipv2-s is a reasonable mod that should serve you well or if you can wait a couple of weeks the new sigelei 50w is released with problems that some had with first batch fixed and stability improved. After experience with clouper I can't recommend them the quality of their chips has been questionable too often and if a problem is too much hassle for them they walk away leaving the customer stranded not a good company to deal with. Whatever option you go with buy from a reputable UK vender that way if you do have a problem you've got some options which makes the higher price a little more justified.

Agree with above, Dna40 mate or if that's over budget wait till the coupler minis land to see if they are as good as they read and look for £20.
Temperature control is not hard at all, some fautly boards which have now been sorted and vapour shark's OC have made it for some a lot harder than it should of been.

It will be an rDNA40 for me next once they are back in stock. Temp control seems a great idea and if you don't get it straight away you can revert to kanthal until the frustration subsides then try again

Do I go for something that takes two batteries, or a mod which has one on-board battery charged through a micro-USB port? Do I really need 260w (!!) or will 30w suffice? Depends on what you're using to vape at the moment & if you're unsatisfied with it in some way. I recently switched to an iStick+Nautilus Mini and an IPV Mini+Silo Tank from an 18500 mod+Origen dripper, as I gradually got fed up dripping, recoiling and switching/charging batteries, and the vape quality droping off as the battery voltage reduced. I was running the dripper at 0.8 ohms (around a 22w vape on a fresh battery), so I've had to up my nic from 6mg to 9-12mg with the bvc tanks but I'm happy now at 14-15w on either device. There's a minor difference in taste compared to the dripper but it's faff-free apart from switching the head out every week or so. The iStick is a great size for out-n-about, and the IPV Mini has been ideal so far for use at home. A Panasonic 18650PF almost lasts me a full day at 14-15w on the IPV, and the iStick would manage a few hours less. Somewhere in between size-wise would be ideal, like the Cloupor Mini or the Smok XPro M50.

Hard to beat the Sigelei 100W plus for the price and features, since i got mine everything else is pretty much where i left it! I run it at 25W for tanks and 50W+ for drippers, it has no annoying screws in the battery compartment but rather numerous strong magnets. Best of all it'll do 2 days easy without the need to charge. Other than that i would look at the rDNA 40 for the advantages of nichrome temp control at a later date.

To my mind, the IPV2x looks the right blend of power, price, design etc. It seems to be able to cover most bases. I'm just concerned by the size really. ???

@johanino- I know you love your VTRs, but I love my Kayfuns so there's an immediate problem there - they won't fit!! Also, I find the VTR very heavy; I would prefer something like the IPV2 or maybe the Sigelei. I am hoping to meet up with *-SARIN-* next week to inspect his Sigelei Christmas present, so that might help me along in my quest

i love box mods but i dont own many because im tight 17mm gizmo without the kick at the moe(mini fogger at 1 to 1.5 ohm is lush) kato (still trying to find the atty for it but rocking a rose at the moe) my other mods are the norm nemi for chaseing clouds and a 35 watt vamo for testing resistance and wicking and a mini nemi as a back up for the gizmo what i really wanted was a one for all so ive been holding out for the 150 watt ivp and the 100 watt segelli to be out and about for a bit to find out which one melts 1st but they seem to be lasting ok now i was lucky nuff for one of the lads to get the ivp beast and using norm coils about 80 watt was the sweet spot so i thought why have all dat power and had a play at making some big ass coils that came out at 2 ohm and managed to run it maxed out on a dripper at this point i had a sudden moment of clear thought with no hint of shinyitus why the heck do i want something this big in my pocket so the real question is what do you want it to do ,for me its small and neat with a good punch and swap-able batts, vv is nice but once you get what you like its hard to beat it if you want to chase clouds build your own im going to oh i have preordered the cluper mini thing for £20 quid ill give it a punt and its small im just not keen on the atty sitting on top

I know that the Clouper Mini has been mentioned above, but may have another look at this - it's a trade-off between size and power. Whilst I would like something which fits comfortably in my pocket, I do like the idea of longevity between charges and the option to bang the power right up if necessary. Google here I come!
