My Christmas present!!

Hi all
Some of the more observant of you may remember that I was asking for advice a few months ago regarding the relative merits of a VW Transporter v. Renault Trafic.
Well, a week before Christmas I polished up my trusty Skoda to within an inch of its life, and parked it carefully under the car port feady to be returned to the lease company. I then took myself off (with a knowledgeable friend) 25 miles up the county to buy a ......... wait for it! ................ VW T4

In case you are interested, here is some more information about it, and some pictures. It's an '03 T4, built within months of the end of production, and as such is an 888 model, with an X-Pack, which gives electric windows, heated electric mirrors, cruise control, and a 2.5TDI engine 88bhp.
It has only got 116K on the clock, which is really not much for a vehicle of this age, and it goes like a dream. To say I'm pleased would be an understatement; although it lacks the sophistication of the Skoda, it is so easy to drive, being only a couple of inches wider and longer, and it certainly has some poke for an older diesel (although of course it does have the turbo).

I know nothing about Vans, but that looks terrific. Are you going to convert it into a camper?

Not full-blown, but I am considering a Rock 'n' Roll bed which would double as an extra couple of seats in the back, but leave me space enough for changing before/after kayaking etc. It's already insulated, lined and carpeted throughout, so that's a job less to do!

That's the idea, Martin, as well as kayaks and things once I've sourced some cheap roofbars - Thule want nearly £200 for a set!! Love the idea of running on Red Astaire too - my exhaust would be a bit more fragrant than it is on these cold mornings

Gave it its first wash and wax yesterday, and I only noticed one little dink in the tailgate; the usual stone chips on the bonnet but nothing else major!
