Skittery Winter

Okay, own up, were you a Skittery Winter today?

Were you the last one out of bed this morning?

Or were you the last one into work today?

If so then if you live in Scotland, then you would be known as Skittery Winter for all of next year.

Another Hogmanay Tradition that seems to be dying out. Shame.

By the by, I was up before the Missus and I am retired.

Ooh, and yes, I have been a Skittery Winter in the past!!

I'm skittery winter! Should I be proud? I only got up cos postman knocked on the door. Kids know where breakfast is and are trained to be quiet in the mornings

If I dare have a lie in I get woofed in the ear and then dragged to the back door to let them out for morning widdles.

Was up at 6 am for cat n dog needing to go out.
Got bk to bed an little one decided she was getting up.
Managed to convince her its still middle of night ( still dark ) she went bk to sleep and woke up at 8 lol.
Left the Mrs in bed till she woke lol.
She surfaced at 11 lazy bones.
To be fair she did have a crappy night so I left her to doze.

It is well documented in Google but there, it would appear to be a West of Scotland phenomena.

I don't know where it originated or why.

I first came across it during my apprenticeship ( 1963 to 1968) when I was in late one Hogmanay.

Needless to say I was never late again. Well not on Hogmanay anyway. The rest of the year was fair game!!!

Well while I wasn't the last one up, I certainly had a Skittery Winter kind of day.

First off I dropped a tray of screws that held 9 different sizes. It took me nearly an hour to sort them all back into their individual trays.

Then I was cutting 4 rusty feet off an old metal table with my angle grinder and on the last one, the grinder jumped back and sliced into the back of one of my fingers (the vaping one).
I haven't lost that much blood since the last time I went to a Blood Transfusion Bus.

Oh well, that is the new Vape Cave well and truly christened. Hope that is the last lot of blood that gets spilled in there!!!

I never have to worry there... I have teenagers

I was however absolutely raging as man has had issues with car all week long (he's a taxi driver) so he decided, in his infinite wisdom, to phone me this morning - to pass away some time whilst garage worked on car.

I've had the worst nights sleep all week -- due to his racking cough, I do have pity but the bloody cough doesnt wake him up.....just me. So now I'm attempting New Year celebrations with my eyeballs down by my knees. If he even attemps to kiss me as the clock strikes, I may have to hoof him in the delicates yes I DO feel that ill tempered....
