After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said:
"Let me see if I've got this right.
You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive Behaviour,
Observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages
And instil in them a love for learning.
You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually
Transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride.
You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play,
And how to register to vote, balance a chequebook, and apply for a job.
You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial Behaviour, and
Ensure that they all pass their final exams.
You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps,
And communicate regularly with their parents in English, Arabic or any other language,
By letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.
You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few
Books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for "New Start."
You want me to do all this, and then you tell me.....
I CAN'T wear a necklace with a little cross, mention God, or say "Merry Christmas" because someone might take offence? "

I thought you were going to comment on THAT film, which, judging by the clips, is not worth watching anyway. However, welcome to the 'politically correct' world of 2015, for some of us anyway... shite isn't it.

The whole story reminds me a lot the following...
A Sad Passing
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame and I'm A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone.

Said interviewee forgot to mention the generous public sector pension & more holidays than you can shake a stick at. Taught children with severe learning disabilities for 31 years, every holiday, yes there are several ,was cut by two thirds doing paperwork and as for the generous public sector pension, I paid in a considerable percentage of my salary for 31 years, retired early 3 years ago, as soon as I was allowed to as my joints are just about shot from all the physical shifting and lifting and no........it's not generous, nor gold plated, nor was it free. Pay is set by governments conditions are a joke and folks seem to expect schools and teachers to bring up their children, not just educate them. Yes, political correctness can go too far, but I'd rather some checks than rampant bigotry. Sorry OP for going off on one, but the main part of the OP is sadly true. Teachers are expected to do all that, and a whole lot more and always, always get the 'you get long holidays and pensions' bile chucked at them. oh, and how many people in any job get to take a load of unruly children away, be responsible for them 24 hours a day with all that entails and then thinks it's a free holiday? Sorry folks, parents complain when schools are closed. They are not child minding services, schools are there to educated. They aren't perfect, not all teachers are conscientious, but the vast majority are. And if it's so blummin wonderful a job, why aren't there more people applying to become teachers? rant from ex teacher over, I will now quietly withdraw and sit in my corner, but I could say a whole lot about mechanics, plumbers, builders, bankers, politicians etc. but I wont.

Well, I hope that my post will not be considered as an off-topic one, but I think the day that things will get a lot better for the rest of the society will be the day that all politicians/doctors/teachers/etc will start "clearing up their own mess, sorting out things and expell the bad ones", same as with mechanics, plumbers, consultants, etc... The easy thing is for anyone to blame the teachers/plumbers/proffessional, he/she will mention it here, to family & friends and that's it... nothing will change and the very next day we will moan for the same thing... perhaps the bad teacher/plumber/proffessional will be removed from his/her prosition but the core of the problem will remain the same and gets worst due to self-protectiveness of the union of teachers/plumbers/proffessionals... At least that's what was happening (still happens and will happen) to Greece... but it might be due to the lack of a strict code of ethics in most of the cases...

qsplan... I don't think it's off-topic, and is within the spirit of the OP. Today, unfortunately, we are a me, me, me society. I realise my posts on these topics are usually negative, but I don't apologise for that, because until we think of others more than ourselves, it will only get worse... and will lead to serious implications. Your comment on ethics is true, I think a lot of people don't even know the meaning of the word. I'll stop now before you all get suicidal.

Speaking as someone who was educated by teachers, I cannot thank them enough. Yes they get long holidays and what was a good pension.
They also get plenty of unpaid overtime, abusive parents, abusive kids and treated like idiots by whichever party is in power.
Where would any of us be without them? No I'm not a teacher

Most people could moan about their lot in life & some think they have it worse than others. There's plenty that i & many others could complain about in our own jobs, but if it was that bad i'd go & do something different. Both my parents retired early with generous local authority / education pensions, one of our closest friends is a retired Headmaster, retired at 60, his pension is more than my basic salary, i speak as i find. I too pay a large chunk of my salary into a pension plan, it's next to worthless & if i'm lucky i might be able to retire when i reach the ripe old age of 67. The point i'm trying to make is that i don't see teachers as being any worse off than anybody else that goes out & does an honest days work & endures the challenges that the day brings.

I had a female primary school teacher that used to live a few doors away, and quite often took me to school in her car (a novelty at the time)... but she still taught me a lesson by taking my socks down and giving me 'the ruler' for being a prat, and standing me in the corner. In grammar school, I had a teacher (actually there was a few) that used to grab you by the scruff of the neck and beat you up in the aisle. I still love them dearly for teaching me 'values' and 'respect'.

The Good Old Days, teachers, police and any passing adult could knock the snot out of you, if you went home and told Mum/Dad you got another slap. Worse punishment was from elderly English teacher, 500 word essay about the inside of a table tennis ball without using the words white or empty.

They really were the good old days, we all knew where we were in the system. Now the kids think they can take a gun and change the world, with their very limited knowledge of the world. So very, very sad. Let's hope things will change
