Hi guys I 'quit' New years eve (had about 4/5 stinkies since) but mainly using my istick, however about 5/6 days after i came down with this shocking manflu which is probably the worst I can remember and deffo actual flu not the fake one (ie you would have no chance working no matter who you are, getting out of bed is a huge mission itself for all those who seem to think they will get a medal going to work and infecting everyone else I know you can expect to be a bit ill when quitting normally and bring up some gunk (not bringing anything up apart from nose running like a tap one day) just wondered if this was normal as its proper rough and writting this is the most I have done in 5 days cheers

There is a bad flu doing the rounds. I've had 3 days of it and virtually over it.
I think it may be too soon to link your flu with the clearing of your lungs. I'd usually expect that to start maybe 2 weeks after fully quitting. But I wouldn't rule that out.
However, I can categorically say you did not catch flu because you've quit, you was gonna get it anyway.

More likely you got flu from all the hands you shook over the Xmas period and New Year coupled with a weakened immune system from all the booze and lack of sleep As Ripshod stated above, you cannot get it from giving up the stinkies, influenza is a virus and a very sneaky one at that. If it lasts less than 5 days and you're not confined to your bed then it isn't Flu but rather one of the rhino or adeno viruses that do the rounds this time of year.

My other half has had it since xmas day and she smokes. Its nothing to do with vaping in fact there is a rumour that vaping actually protects you from cold and flu as it has something in it that kills viruses. I'm starting to think there might be something in it as in two years of vaping ive not even had a bad cold. I could be wrong, but I read it somewhere.

in fact there is a rumour that vaping actually protects you from cold and flu as it has something in it that kills viruses. not a rumour, the PG in juice is an antibacterial/antiseptic agent, it's pumped around buildings by commercial aircon systems, especially in hospitals, exactly for this purpose

As others have said Greeny1210, there is a really bad flu bug going around several friends & neighbours came down with it over Christmas & many of them still haven't shaken it off

Propylene glycol is a powerful antibacterial agent ( see this for instance) so it's unlikely vaping has given you man flu Of course flu is a virus.

Oh no I wasn't suggesting it was vaping causing it more quitting smoking stinkies, as I heard something called quitters flu, just thought vaping may have stopped that as still getting nicotine
probably just unlucky but weird I get the worse flu I can remember first time I quit smoking after 20 years

I had a flu jab back in 88. This year I've had my first flu since. Sometimes things just don't make sense. Here's to a speedy recovery for you Greeny1210

I had a flu jab back in 88. This year I've had my first flu since. Sometimes things just don't make sense. Here's to a speedy recovery for you Greeny1210 Flu jabs are specific to a strain of influenza and if you get a strain that the jab doesn't protect against then guess what? Yep you get flu. Once you have had a strain then your immune system remembers the genetic make up and can defend against it. The World Health Organisation has the job of predicting what strain will be prevalent in the season. Some of you might know that flu is given strain numbers HxNx where H is hemagglutinin and N is neuraminidase. There are 16 differing subtypes of H and 9 of N, giving the Flu virus plenty of scope for genetic manipulation during transcription. Classic flu strains are H1N1 (Spanish Flu multi species), H3N2 (Asian Flu multi species) and the B-strain (only affects humans). Jabs are usually trivalent or quadravalent (3 or 4 different strains in the same jab) but all jabs will include the B-strain vaccine. There is a C-strain but it is very rare and mild. Getting Flu is rarer than a lot of people think and many think that they have it when in reality they have any of a number of other seasonal viruses. True Influenza will put you in bed for around 2 weeks and you will literally think that you are dying, as many of you that have truly had it will attest. It's a very clever and fascinating RNA virus that has genetic modification ability to evade immune systems - the sole reason that it's not been eradicated, although some researchers think that they are close. It's also thought to be one of the oldest and most successful viruses in the world. Dammit i slated my tutor all those years ago when i had to learn about it, stating that it was boring and irrelevant but the amount of times that it comes up, i'm glad that i listened. I almost did my dissertation on Flu vaccines although had a word with myself and researched cis-neonicotinoid analogues instead. ***Science Geek Extra*** Flu jabs proteins are grown within chicken eggs!

One theory is that flu is caused by a virus.
