Just seen posts on the temp control M80 plus, not looking too promising Kinda glad I didn't jump in now. Tho any firmware upgrade would be covered when it's sorted. Vendors are covered for returns so buyers should be too.

Mine drops the wattage when it reaches about 40% battery. If using the atlantis @30w it drops it to 25w. With a subtank @19w it dropped to 10w so no set % drop.
I have done the reset and it is still doing it. If you turn the wattage back up it just drops it again.
It is a little annoying but i suppose it it supposed to save the battery. Although I wonder why, if this is really necessary, all regulated mods do not have this.
Mine does not seem to be temperature related as it does it wherever I am.
I have tried a vtc5, vtc4 and efest purple and all do it.
I was just about to order the m80 too but am put off by recent threads.....

As battery volts drop the current draw need to increase to maintain the same power, the M50/65 monitors this and reduces the power to whatever it 'feels' is safe. The mod also seems to measure the voltage sag to the same effect.
I feel sad that there's so many problems out there whereas I have none with either of my M65s. I won't be recommending smok products to anyone else, especially with the TC problems with the M80 as well. Until such time as ALL the problems get sorted.

In the m65's defense it is a nice looking mod which does work well. I personally don't mind the wattage drop thing as I can just put it on charge and use another mod or use it on pass through.
I have 3 smok tanks here to review too that I am undecided on too.
They seem to be trying to fill the gap between the quality products from aspire/kanger etc and the cheap crap that is available. Their pricing is right but just need to get the products 100% right.

In short, they dont work as expected out of the box, and the temp control appears pretty useless on the M80.

Temperature control aside as an 80w mod with built in battery is it worth getting? I need a backup as the missus has nicked the m65 already.

I agree, still a great 80 watt mod for the price. 4400mAh and passthrough makes it.

My M50 50watt also does the 5w drop when its cold. Normally first thing in the morning after its been sitting unused all night.
It has only really started doing this since I switched to a 0.5 ohm build & 25+ watts though. Battery is a 2 month old Samsung 25R, which gets charged once a day in the mod via usb.
Before I ran it around 0.7 ohm & 24 watts & I don't remember it ever doing it, and that was even during the cold spell we had here last month.

I find that very intriguing, being an M65 user (same hardware - different firmware). I've already stated I vape at 40watts, but I didn't give the rest of the info. I vape 40Watts on a 0.3ohm build with a 10 month old VTC5. Only get the wattage drops when I'm outside in this cold weather, and only if I haven't stored it inside the jacket. Had an initial drop when testing at 45Watts, but only the one. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in these mods. I can't hide my disappointment.

Mine is messing around and dropping wattage when it feels like it. I bought a Samsung 25 battery alongside the mod, its under a month old. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I work ten hour shifts, majority of the time away from charging source, this mod/battery is not fit for purpose as it isn't long before I get the weak battery message and it refuses to work. I then manage to get it on charge and it still states it has 50-60% charge in it.

I'll try & remember to test it with a 0.7 ohm build again before I get the 65 watt firmware upgrade done. I still need to call them to see if I can take it in rather than posting it. I'm not that disappointed in mine to be honest, as I prefer the slightly smaller size compared to the Sigelei 30 watt. Plus the Smok comes in blue The Clopour Mini I wouldn't touch with a bargepole , and I had the IPV Mini which I changed from to the Smok. If Sigelei did a blue version of the 30 watt then I might need to switch sides...

I've been lucky and only get the weak battery message when it gets down to the last 1-2 rows of pixels on the bottom of the battery graphic on the display, and it then shows 25-30% when I put in on to charge. I'll test the battery out on my Xtar VP1 charger to see what the battery voltage is really at next time.

I'll test the battery out on my Xtar VP1 charger to see what the battery voltage is really at next time. I tested this on my D4. Was 3.42Volts when rejected. When put on charge in the M65 showed 25%. Disconnected the charger, took a few hits and 'weak battery'. sooo - there is a metering issue, even though ~3.4Volts is about right.
