Coil wraps?

Gonna have my first go at coil building tonight. I have the vapers toolbox app and they mention a 17 /16 wrap. Probably a total newbie fail here but I don't understand what they mean. Can anyone enlighten me?

oh, I've never got on with understanding coil wrap generators, but if its suggesting 16-17 wraps then it sounds like you need different wire as for anything 'normal' 5-10 is the max Ive seen

A wrap is one complete twist of your wire around your measuring post (be it 2/2.5/3/3.5mm)

Make sure you have put the correct gauge wire in the previous section of the app (wire cutter bit)

My guess is you have it set to a really low gauge. It carries the wire gauge from the previous section onto the one you are on.

aha, I knew I'd saved one on my pc that made sense to me, its this one.

I don't measure my piece of wire, I just go with amount of wraps to width of my mandrel

The wire I'm using is .25mm thick which I believe is 30 gauge. Thats what I put in the wire cutting bit. Does that purely mean 16-17 wraps then?

Whay target resistance did you put below the gauge you selected?

make sure you click next before going to the coil building page as that adjusts the wire length which is not correct in your screen shot

The wider your coil (inside diametre in mm) the less wraps, the higher (thicker) your wire - the less wraps.
what ohms are you wanting coil to end up at drunkenbum ?

You will struggled to get a 17 wraps coil onto any deck or into a coil. So you should wrap at 2mm or use higher guage wire... I think

Never mind the trouble to wick it.

I'd try 2.5 or 3mm, and/or a heavier guage wire.

I've put in dual coil with a target resistance of 1.5 ohms. The .25 mm kanthal is all I have at present. If I change it to 2mm it still comes out at 13/14 wraps? I'm confused!

If I change to single coil it comes out at 7/8 wraps

Those graphs confuse the hell out of me!

I'd find a 2-2.5 mm drill bit or rod of some kind and do 7 or 8 wraps with .25 Kanthal.

Change it to single coil as I assume you are building one microcoil?

I think it would really help us drunkenbum if you let us know what it is you are wanting to coil (dual coil) and what battery you are putting it on and what ohms you were hoping for

Building on an omega dripper, to put on my vamo or mvp 2 (both temporarily) aiming for a 1.5 ohm build. Doesn't have to be dual coil, just thought as it takes it I might as well do it
