Here am I, quite happily vaping away on my Vamo etc at 7.5w or on my iStick at 5w, yet I am reading about other MODs that can be used at 50 or even 100w.
Why on earth would anyone want to vape at 100w? ???
What kind of battery life would I get at 100w?
I imagine that I would blow my ears off at these kind of wattages.

I know what you mean lobeydosser - my recent dilemma about which box mod to buy revolved around this very topic. I have plumped for a new MVP3 as I wanted something which had great battery life and was reassuringly solid and long-lasting. I now have a mod capable of firing up to 30w; I have tried a dripper at 20w and it was no more flavoursome than it was at 15w. My Kayfuns, with coils of around 1ohm, will only work reliably up to around 13w before I start to get burnt hits and a drop in flavour. Why on earth would I want something which pumps out 3 or 4 times the wattage that I currently use, when I will never use it? Even if I get a Eureka Moment and suddenly want to fire up to 25w, I still have the capability to do so. I wonder if the vaping world is succumbing to the same 'bigger is better' mentality that RL so often does. I'll now sit back, flak-jacket to hand, hard hat to my side, and wait for all the dedicated drippers and cloud-chasers to shoot me down in flames (custard-flavoured, please!). Me, I'm more than happy with my 30w mod

What's Rugby League got to do with it chykensa? i agree to some extent with you both. 15 watts is plenty for the kayfun. But I like 20-25 on the Erl. It can also be juice dependent. I believe a 50 watt mod would be fairly future proof for me.

Different style of vaping is all. If you're mouth to lung style vaping you need the airflow to be restricted and because the airflow is restricted you don't want a lot of power going to the coil otherwise it gets too hot. If you direct lung vape then you need lots of airflow and you need to turn up the heat at the coil to produce more vapour otherwise you're just drawing in a lot of air rather than more vapour.

Dunno, never been passed 30w regulated but i won't knock it 'cos i haven't tried it.
I get everything i want out of my atties between 12w & 20w but i'm easily pleased.

I agree with the above from lobeydosser and chykensa, my vamo is chugging along on 9w and the vtr on 9.5w. I have just put a fresh battery in the stingray so given the coil it is about 12w.Don't really need anything higher as I am perfectly happy with flavour and vapour @ mixes of 50/50 pg/vg. However thinking about an istick 30w as a handy out and about.

I DLI using my drippers (and my Kayfuns on occasion), and whilst I understand that open airflow is key to a good result, I still think that 30w is ample for my needs. Horses for courses I guess!

I certainly don't understand 100watts . . . but I can see the attraction of 30w or 50w devices for sub ohm vaping. They're not the be all and end all for me, but I am enjoying the different vape from them, for a change. Depends on you as an individual as much as anything I guess, sticking to just one or two flavours would drive me crackers . . . I love trying and using lots of different ones. If something new and different adds to your vaping enjoyment, then why not - if you're not bothered by any of this new kit about, then there's nothing wrong with that either. Be a boring old world if we all liked or wanted the same.

I think it's just progress, it's optional whether you go with it or not. 6 months ago I was more than happy at around 10 to 12 watts and no doubt I could have stayed there. But I now Vape between 20 and 25 watts something I wouldn't have considered six months ago but now 12 watts does absolutely nothing for me.
Would I ever Vape at 100 watts, I very much doubt it but never say never.

I am pretty happy vaping a Vamo or 20w istick with a Protank 2 stuck on it, I get everything I need from it. I have recently purchased a 50w istick, a Lemo drop and a Delta 2 with RBA base. I haven't ventured over 25w on the istick, still using the 0.5ohm stock head that came with the Delta and that level of power has been more than sufficient for me. I'm enjoying the experimentation with lung inhaling and rebuildables, it'a different way of vaping and it's fun I don't need it to have a satisfying vape though, I think if you are happy with what you've got why look further lol. I tend to stick to a Protank/Aerotank type set up during the day and vape the Delta/Lemo at home after dinner.

Thanks all. That explains it. Personally the important bit for me is battery life. Something that lasts all day from getting up until going to bed and, ofcourse, a tank that holds that time of e-juice. My iStick & Nautilus do that. So, for now, I will continue to be a 5w, stick in the mud, dull, boring, old trick dog!

Would I ever Vape at 100 watts, I very much doubt it but never say never. Just 3 months ago i was vaping on an Evod which i started using last November, that kept me off the roll ups until January but i would describe that more as sufficient rather than an enjoyable experience, it was just a means to quit tobacco. Bought a Sigelei 50w v2 and a full size Subtank which i got on January 5th and that transformed vaping for me from a quitting tool to an enjoyable experience. I dropped my nicotine from 18mg to 6mg instantly. I just didn't get any satisfaction from wispy little clouds of vapour other than using it to stave off nicotine cravings. I wanted lots of dense vapour alongside that nicotine fix so more airflow and higher power was a necessity to get the experience i found pleasurable. My RBA's i usually vape somewhere around 25w -35w. Drippers usually around 40w but i do occasionally push them to 50w or 60w.

When I moved from mini Nautilus to Subtanks I expected to be ramping up the power. Actually, I run the Subtanks on a lower watt setting than before.
Its all about the atomizer, airflow, inhaling style....
I have vaped at 35 (RDA) watts and it was quite pleasant. Mostly, I vape to not smoke... I get zero throat hit these days, so I guess if I wanted to really get a "hit" I could understand vaping at whatever power makes that happen.
