Right then @hondo , I'll be badgering You for the verdict in a fortnight then! Interested re. the 'gunkiness' of these extracts....however they've been extracted, I'd expect the Virg. & the Cav. to coat them coils quicker than t'other ones 'cos of the sugars indiginent to those types of 'baccy...

Cheers yourgurnard . Now I think back almost all of the NETs I've previously tried have come already mixed with other strong flavours, which might explain it. My own Old Holborn homebrew experiment had a very strong (almost unpleasant) odor, so I guess I assumed they all would to some degree. On day 3 of steeping the Black Cavendish has started maturing and I can smell something "familiar" from it now, so fingers crossed. I know what you mean when you say potentially good value, but at 80-90p per 10ml of finished DIY ejuice I do consider this top end "premium", so it still needs to be special to justify that cost IMO. I agree the low percentages of these commercial NET concentrates is baffling. These stixx Mixx juices are so clean too, so whatever filtration process they use it is extremely effective and maybe it is this that concentrates the NET juice even further? Whatever, if that transfers to less coil gunking then it will justify the higher price for sure. I don't expect to like all of these, but if I can find one among them that fits the bill I'll consider it a result. As these are pure NET's with no additions the recommended steep time is quite short at 2 weeks, so I guess we'll know soon enough :-) I've just started using coffee filters for my NETs. Made them super clear, reduced the gunking to the point that I'll use them on cotton rather than just mesh. But I'd noticed a considerable drop in flavour. I used to use them at 10-15%. Post filtering I need 15-20%

domejunky This is interesting re. the coffee filters.....I've always used 'em, right from the 1st NET I made, & have always been told (on ECL) that they were woefully inadequate! What did You use before the coffee filters?

What did You use before the coffee filters? Stainless steel scrubbies. Works for draining my brew kettle when making beer. Once the gunk has built up, the gunk filters the gunk - if you get my drift.

Cool. Tho' grain/hop particles in the wort are gonna be much bigger than bits of 'baccy in a NET.... Don't try & sparge the steeped 'baccy with hot PG!

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to report on the Stixx Mixx NETs as something went very wrong with them all due to bad NIC I think - I remember reading others here had an issue with an off batch of NIC from Darkstar earlier this year and I worried at the time as I knew nearly half my freezer stash was from the same batch - sure enough when I checked the used NIC bottle it smelt aweful (if only I had checked before I used it but I'd forgotten about the issue to be honest). Anyways, that was quite a bit of cash wasted (enough to buy a Kayfun Prime near as darn it). About 900ml of juice down the drain inn total, so I won't be trying them again any time soon.
I do currently have a re-supply of BCL NETS steeping (using a good bottle of NIC thankfully), including five new flavours to try. Old Banjo, Mrs Jones, Black Honey, Turkish Dark and Tawny Dawn. These work out at a third the cost of Stixx Mixx, so I'll be sticking to BCL for the foreseeable I think. I'll no doubt shout in due course if I find some new favourites among them. Their new Black Honey Tobacco is interesting though - despite the name it's nearly clear in appearance (like PG/VG crystal clear apart from a tiny brown tinge if you hold it up to the sunlight) but I queried this with them by email and they assure me that's normal - so it could be a real coil saver if it tastes any good - I can't say I'm not puzzled by that appearance though, especially when compared to all the others.

I think that turned out to be FUD. I have bottles from the so called bad batches that turned out to be fine. It was put down to transportation issues. Darkstar were replacing dodgy bottles...

I didn't keep on top of the threads domejunky but for me there was no doubt the NIC in my bottle was off. Whether it was DS, transportation or my storage to blame, the end result was the same alas .

Hmm, not sure I see the point to that really. It's a year on and even if he replaced the 100ml NIC it won't cover the main loss of £80 in concentrates, which in fairness I only blame myself for as I didn't check the NIC before actually using it. I dug another bottle out of the freezer last week to check from a very early batch and it is fine. I really need to check the others from the suspect batch before I do anything more.
