I want to give this a try but just after some advice first Have never tried the real thing but had a go on a clone version debra465 had at the last Meet. I really liked it which was suprising as I'm not a coconut fan. I've looked for the recipe and the one I think most of you are using is this: Castle Long clone2.5% Kentucky Bourbon 1.5% Coconut Extra 1.5% Acetyl Pyrazine 1.5% Toasted Almond 1% Vanillin 1% Bourbon Vanilla 1% Brown Sugar Extra On the Kritical mass page it says these are all TFA/TPA flvourings. Do those of you mixing this stick to TFA? I found TFA Kentucky Bourban on Chef's site, and as I don't own a coconut concentrate I was wondering if DV Coconut might be ok as I've seen a few people recommend it as their favourite as it's nice and creamy. Or should I stick with the recipe and get TFA's? Also, I have FA Vanilla Bourban - do you think there's a big difference between that and TFA version? Would the % needed be about the same? Already have AP, Vanillin and Brown Sugar extra so Toasted Almond is the only other one I need. If there is a better recipe out there and this isn't the one most of you are using, then could you point me in the right direction pretty please ?

The Castle Long saga on AAE-C seems to have been started by iLardyboy (though he was kinda given a push by Pepperty) using that recipe with some substituting TPA Coconut at 3%, if they didn't have the 'extra' version and others switching 0.5% FA Vanilla Bourbon for 1% TPA Bourbon Vanilla when Chefs Vapour ran out. But it really got interesting when lairey (in post #103 on page 7) came up with the idea of doubling most of the ingredients! And we all danced along... Since then I've seen a couple of paler versions but I'm backing the full-fat, sod the arteries, blow your taste buds version. Edit: And I've only just noticed that I've been using 'too much' coconut - after making over 100ml of the gorgeous stuff! I guess it should really be either 6% TPA Coconut but if you're using the more concentrated Extra version then only around 3%. Hey, whatever works for you...

Absolutely brilliant ceedee... I couldn't possibly follow up on that! Well there's always the super-rich boozy mix: TPA Kentucky Bourbon 6% TPA Coconut Extra 3% TPA Toasted Almond 3% FA Oak Wood 2.5% TPA Brown Sugar 2.5% TPA Acetyl Pyrazine 2% TPA Vanillin (10%) 2% FA Vanilla Bourbon 2% To be honest, it's a bit much even for me!

Ok - just to update my experience with this recipe... My usual 3 week steeping rule of patience somehow got abandoned today. 'I'll just try a little drop' I thought innocently... THIS STUFF IS AMAZINGI have no idea what the real thing is supposed to taste like but feel no need to find out! This is only after a week's steep so it can only get better. I did reduce the coconut a little and for my tastes it was perfect. Anyone thinking of mixing this I highly recommend it Will be making a gert huge flaggon of it tomorrow!!

lairey - I ended up using the one in my first post, except I reduced the coconut extra to 1% and increased vanillin to 1.5% (just to keep my ocd tendencies happy...couldn't handle just reducing the coconut without balancing somewhere else ) Can easily see what you're all raving about now

ceedee The pic you posted with the recipe - which calculator is that? Thanks It's Rod "HotRod" Brown's Juice Calculator (also confusingly called "Recipe Calculator" in different places) which is a free download via Dropbox or Google Drive links (err, GD link currently not working for me) that are on the first page of an enormous dedicated ECF thread. It takes a bit of getting used to so it's well worth reading through the (still incomplete) Getting Started User Guide - I'm really selling it, eh? On the plus side, Rod regularly engages with users in that massive thread and has frequently brought out an updated version (without any warning) to incorporate the new ideas suggested by users. I got into it when it was about the only app that calculated weights properly and now have difficulty with anything else. If you decide to use it and have a problem, feel free to drop me a PM and I'll try to help out.

Thanks you ceedee:) I've been weight mixing since I started DIY and ended up making my own calculator in excel for the job. It's good to see developers catering for us better now!! I'll check it out. Thanks

Quick question lairey I'm waiting for these to get the unflavoured dilutant back in www.onepoundeliquid.com/10ml-flavourless-eliquid.html yeah I know I'm bone idle but it seems like less faff as I don't have any nic base and pg so will it be ok to mix up a batch of the castle long base for when they finally get it back in stock then just add it into it at a ten percent ratio or is it better to mix it all at once into the nic base?
