Good article markm. I had read somewhere else the reason for California's bizarre anti-vape proclamations was because they had borrowed against future cig sales so even a fraction of a percent decline in smoking impacts them quite dramatically. This article explains it in much greater detail.

These state governments are in a very real sense trying to keep people smoking!

It's mind boggling how much money is at stake in maintaining smoking at or above current levels. Never mind the tax revenue from BT the world over. Then also consider the employment aspects, and then the trade in actual tobacco being sold by farmers. Were smoking to stop overnight the world economy would be in big trouble. I hate to think how much of our pension money is tied up in one form or another with smoking. So these are mega high stakes being played out, and us pawns, the consumer don't know the half of it. Or our interests are not even considered.
