Why you shouldn't support races like the Grand National

I never could watch the Grand National, my mum adores horses/grew up riding/clearing them out etc and taught me to ride when i was super young. I remember years ago if a horse broke a leg etc they would put them down, i was often like if the jockey broke his leg...well we best put them out of their misery!

But yea, love horses, beautiful creatures!

I've got to admit, even a cynical old git like myself was a bit shocked at the statistics on that site. If that was humans being injured like that in a so-called sport, would it be allowed ?
Humans have a choice to partake in those kind of things.

Cock fighting, dog fighting, donkey abuse, battery hen, ad infinitum.. It all still goes on. I cannot afford to support all animal causes. This year there were no fatalities, horse or jockey, in the grand national steeplechase.

People try and get boxing banned as it causes harm. But the pugilists enjoy it and they like to do it. Same with horses. They enjoy it and like to do it. Everything has dangers, but if you take all the dangers away, where's the fun?

Nobody makes the horses run or jump. If they don't want to, they won't. If you watch racing, or even read about a race, you often see "refused". This means the horse had a choice to jump or stop. It chose to do what it wanted. Many times a horse will not start a race, regardless of the jockey. It chose not to run.

crazy stats on the site think i have bet under 5 times in my life on horses
but the number of deaths of horses are unreal..

thats just the ones on record what about all those races the gypses have also

No, you are wrong. They are competitive, as all animals are. That is why cats fight. Nobody makes them do it. Dog fighting, cock fighting, (don't agree with either), greyhound racing, even dressage is competing animals. They all require training to avoid defeat. As much as any athlete does, if they don't want to do it, they won't.

Animals may be competitive but humans exploit and abuse them for monetary gain.

Unfortunately when it comes to competing animals if they dont want to do what there owners wont them to do its probably off to the knackers yard for a 'back of the neck special'.
