looks like you have broken the back of the project by doing the hardest part already.
Impressive design and work imho.
I cant offer more than praise so well done and please keep the pics coming as you progress. I for one will enjoy reading about and seeing the progress as it develops.

Looks real impressive to me. First thought on a fastener for the bottom is a dzus fastener. It the quick fairing mounting clip on motorbikes. I piece of timber the shape of an 8 to fit inside the bottom but recessed deeper into the rta side and the fastener in that side to hold it on. Hope my description makes some sense and gives you an option.

You could fix a large course thread nut (or plate you tap) in the bottom on atty side and use a matching countersunk machine screw to hold a base plate on and take the negative off the nut, need a bump or spring on the battery side. You could cut a groove in the screw that would allow you to use a coin to turn it. Brass or thick aluminium would be easiest to get and work with fro the base plate IMO and both good conductors.

Your thinking along the same lines as me VP. The fastener I picture are spring loaded half turn open or closed.

Have you got enough room to slide a dna in the tube under the 510. Couple of recessed tactile buttons for the +/- Perhaps you could fix one side of the bottom plate so it swivels open and use magnets to hold it shut. Just a thought.

Stunning work so far bud. I'd be inclined to go with this idea as its kind of what cane to me when I saw it. Anouther similar option would be wire from negative to magnet in wood at bottom corresponding to thick brass with magnet countersunk on both ends and an additional contact to base of battery.
