Hello, I am new here but I have tried Motives and Nicolites rechargeable and seem to get a really bad cough! Anyone else have this problem? I was on 16 mg so maybe a little too strong? Many thanks Hi and welcome to AAEC good advise so far above but we need more info are these the refills you have been using www.nicolites.com/shop/starter-kits.html and www.10motives.com/refills/if so cartridges were great in the start 3-4 years ago but are crap now as the industry has grown massively. if these are not what you are using can you link to the items from them websites. a good starting point is a pen like that you can see on this site myepack.co.uk/kits.htmlive never heard of them makes so cant say what the flavors and strength are like but most of us start off on 18mg strength and then slowly lower it. at first if i dook too deeper drag it would make me cough as well. i have 2 or 3 puffs a hour on 18mg and then the rest of the time im on 0 nictine.

I coughed for years when I hadn't vaped for a few hours and first thing in the morning. No where near as bad as my 'stinkie smoker's cough'. Try what has been said - but most importantly - don't fret about it!!! Hope that helps JAne

I started off with a nicolites e-cig.. what a waste of £20 and £7 per pack of 3 cartomisers!!!!
They are rubbish. Get yourself a proper vaping kit. I recommend the Kanger EVOD to start with. Did brilliantly for me before I upgraded to a mod and tanks.
They are harsh on the throat you will need to get used to vaping like when you first started smoking. Give it some time and get something better than an overly expensive old style cartomiser system.
All the advice here is excellent, hope you stick with it and don't end up going back to tobacco!

I was a heavy smoker, about 30-35g of drum a day without filters. I had a horrible cough at the end of my smoking days where I could hardly string a sentance together without a coughing fit.
Switched to an EVOD kit using dirt cheap pg heavy e liquid from mr ecig (hangsen and dekang, although I must admit the dekang was far superior for most flavours). I still coughed a bit.
Swapped over to a mech mod and a kraken tank and used high vg liquids and dropped from 18mg to 12mg and never had a cough since. Now down to 6mg at work and 3mg at home.
Give your body time to expell the crap built up from smoking. You'll probably hack up a lot of phlegm and pollutants from your respitory system for 2-8 weeks, this is normal. It's your body getting rid of the trash cigarettes deposited in your system. After this, if you stil cough, pay a visit to a site that offers tailored liquids such as joose juice or health e vape. Pick some liquids at 50pg/50vg, and perhaps one or two at 12mg nicotine. If you dont cough but still crave a nic hit, stick with the lower nic and higher VG content, and grab a higher performance tank and mod.
Some advice from a heavy smoker...dont quit quitting. You may miss a stinkie, but the health gains once you get over the initial pangs and coughing spurts/colds/flus are immesurable. Quitting will change your life. It saved mine.

Lol DiscoDes , I laugh when friends tell me they tried ecigs, 'made me cough like feck' ! "Did you stick with them"? I ask them "No, back on the fags, at least they don't make me cough" Never mind the fact that they're killing em slowly , some people just don't know a good thing !

and for fellow newbies who have just found this page by google....
what makes you cough when you try an e-cig?
Well for me for years it was one of the dilutents - PG - propylene glycol. In cigalikes it's often quite high and mixed with VG (vegetable glycerine) which produces the vapour.
It can also be your body naturally getting rid of the gunk of stinkies as well as getting used to a new inhaling method on e-cigs (there's a few methods for vaping)
The chances of e-cigs being 'too strong' and causing you to cough are slim. It's probably one of the above. If the e-cig was 'too strong' you would only need one puff for your craving - not loads
As others have said - coughing is no excuse to go back to the stinkies. I quite liked it for a while as it was part of replicating the stinkie experience. I still cough on the 'white plastic condoms' that you get from the pharmacy for nicotine because they have different composition to my e-cig in terms of additives...
E-cigs only have 4 ingredients - PG (see above), VG (vegetable glycerine), flavourings (same as what they use in food) and nicotine (which is even in vegetables). Compare that to NRT (the mouth spray and nasal spray contain acid. That's all I know and enough to put me off!!!) and stinkies and well......draw your own conclusion.

my 2 p worth lol dont treat the ecig as a ciggy! just inhale in to mouth back of throat has many veins which absorb the nic, after a while short small inhale to lungs like you did before[this point that is upto you ]some just prefer small hold in mouth.....
Now after yrs of smoking your body has got used the bonfire so did your lungs, now you basically inhaling clean steam with a flavour, basic same when have a cold and vicks in boiling water, suck steam in cough guts up lol
If you every get the vapers tongue! no taste ,tastes like boiled water lol switch juices and also try in hale to cheek instead of the middle of throat,we have all had it.....and word if you use any menthol flavours you will find it very hard to get rid of tatse in atty ,so just use ones for menthol and rest for others

Another one frightened off! Maybe, but if they can read and evaluate, maybe not? Even if said poster has been frightened off, others will find this info and perhaps it well help them. The more advice we can give to each person, the more info there is out there for everyone. Hope the OP has stuck with ecigs and will come back and tell us how he/she is doing.

I'm a newbie too. To answer your question; About a year ago I tried one of the e-stick types, made me cough like hell and I did not even consider giving up smoking. It was a 24mg one. A year on and someone had me try a Kanger EMOW kit from Amazon for around £30. At first I tried 24mg liquid, left me coughing, then got some decent juice from LiQuid at 18 and 12 mg and after 3 weeks I'd left gigs behind. I have had some issues with coughing, but it's got less, and is now gone altogether. I learned to keep myself hydrated while Vaping, lots of water, tea or coffee. However, I suspect it's different for everyone. Good luck, hope this helps.
