Confirming Facebook identity WTF?

Facebook apparently wants me to confirm my identity by providing ID like Birth Cert, Driving Licence, Passport, Marriage Certificate (LOL!)

Do they SERIOUSLY think I'm going to provide these? What security do they have in place to handle my very sensitive information?

It may well be time to say Goodbye to Facebook!

Has anyone had this?

Or is it just me because I show my first name as DiscoDes which is almost true!

I've had the same on one of my accounts, there's no way around it unless you can prove that your stated name is correct and I cant prove OC Quatic I'll have to think of a more plausible name

Ooooh that's a good one, DiscoDes!! They could give it to their listed hackers, as, if you search on FB, you may even find your email addy & password already on there, after pages & pages of them showed to me on a Google search one day. It was reported, just checked & it's all still there. They haven't even deleted the hackers accounts & lists, totally disgusting!

Slightly off, sorry, Des, I Googled my own email addies once & was horrified to find one listed on some far flung site, with my password that nobody knew except me. It was changed pronto & now I regularly check. So folks, give it a try with yours & I hope to goodness you don't turn up on any foreign nasties list.

The need for this arose early on in Facebook's history when false names were first used

Pusbook doesn't like unreal names, there's a lot of folk had to change to their real names to stay on. Probably a good thing though with all the feckin paedos etc, makes it easier to catch bad people.

Who in his/her right mind puts his/her real name on anything on the internet, other than on cc check outs on shiny sites of course

The "real name" policy is enforced by users reporting other users...
i.e. If you happen to know that your near neighbour, Mr Joe Bloggs has a passion for, Irish Wolfhounds, and you happen to loathe Irish Wolfhounds and spray painting their front door just hasn't had the desired effect, if you know who they are on facebook you can annonymously report them for using a false name. The onus is then placed immediately upon Joe who has to prove his identity.
This becomes particularly horrid for someone who has come out of an abusive relationship or been stalked or similar and have been trying to retain a semblance of anonymity and the abuser finds their profile.
And it gets really tricky when someone who is trans and living as, say, a man, is targeted by some sick homophobe.

This is quite different to a journo or author using a pen name (who probably should have their own "page" rather than personal identity).

Comply rather than giving the aggressor the win.

Ahhh well, I don't know who might have reported me (It might have been the Ex, but doubtful). I just used DiscoDes as my first name for the past 8 years or so with my correct surname with no problems. But what the hey, I have re-read the proof of ID requirements and am considering sending a heavily doctored jpeg of my passport with all the serial numbers blanked just showing my name and photo.

You could change your name by deed poll for a week or 2, get one of those ID updated then change it back, extreme I know, but It's not expensive.

IMO fessbook should be renamed to gossipcorner. I loathe that site ! Nearly cost me my marriage. All LIES and Photoshop !! Thankfully I have a LOT of visible tattoos and the photoshopped image had NONE.
