Reposting here in hopes of more response than elsewhere
My aero tank mega has a very strange issue
The coil resistance continually increases after a day or two of use.. eventually goes over 2 ohms and then goes pop and dies.
Ive tried several things..
Dry burning to remove gunk. This only accelerates the increase of resistance and/or burns away the silica wicking inside the head - no good.
Cleaning out the aero tank mega, including the 3-part airflow base, everything scrubbed with a cotton bud - tried with nail varnish remover and with ordinary water.. no good.
I read somewhere that sometimes the 3 part airflow base expands and pulls apart a little because it is only press fitted together.. and lightly hammering them back together fixes the issue.. Did that - notably less spacing between the 3 pieces but does not fix the issue.
Finally I have tried moving the adjustable pin inside the airflow base 510 adapter. No change.
The mod I am using is the subox mini - do not have another mod to test with.

You've already done the thing's I would have suggested. I use an aerotank mega all day every day, to me the resistance rises when the coils gunked. Try taking the silica out, dry burning and rewicking with cotton wool the wick collects gunk as well.

tbh I dunno about the coil problem, hope you get it sorted Im sure someone with better knowledge will be along soon.. I would just like to comment on the hammering of atty bits together, if possible a better alternative may be to use a vice to exert a level pressure to repress parts together use drilled soft wood to support extrusions such as the 510 connector.. using a vice you have way more control than striking with a hammer..

phatfil a vice is on my list of wants for garage tools lol prr how do you get the top off them? I last heard that these new "upgraded" ones break if you try to take the top off.. The old single coil that came with the EVOD lasted loads longer... and could be dry burned without trashing the silica.. Not impressed with having to replace it in less than a week. Also I could understand gunk causing them to increase resistance that makes sense.. but to just continually increase steadily almost with every fire it goes up by 0.1 ohms? That doest make sense to me.. that the gunk rate would rise exponentially.. And then for it to go pop at the end.. to me that is something wrong with the coils.. design.. or wire quality.. something is causing them to deteriorate surely?

That seems a cool idea. I'm sure I've also seen people re-coiling the kanger head bodies too which could also be an idea. Was it you prr that does this?? It was on this forum for sure. If the answer to this issue really is "kanger just make shoddy coils" I would be really disappointed but accepting of this as the only conclusion. Was so annoyed when pushing the 3 pieces back together didn't fix it. The web post I found shouting it as the solution seemed so scientific, describing how they measured the resistance of the base and it was too high but changed when they pushed them together again.. bahh.

I take it you've got the round heads with the small holes! Pull the chimney off with pliers, some will break but most won't. Inside is a collar bull that off with pliers and that leaves you with the coil base. Gently pull the wick out dry burn, insert new wick and reassemble. If you've got the old style protank heads they are obviously simple, all you need to do to make these fit the aerotank is add another silicone cap upside down on the chimney. I've had an operation on my thumb which is actually beginning to work properly again. I've got quite a few heads to coil and wick for some members, give me till Thursday and send some old protank heads down to me and I'll coil and wick them for you xantivenxm

That's truly a well gunked coil xantivenxm! I'd take prr up on his generous offer and send some heads off to him for a makeover.

If you look as per your picture, the raised bit of metal can be pulled upwards and off with pliers, this leaves the head like the older dual coiled heads, remove the wick because that is seriously guncked, however the coils might be beyond help, what are you vaping?

prr 60vg/40pg juice from a mix of drip drop and freedom vape. Some fruits some more "sticky" flavors like salted caramel. If you look in the photo I found the problem.. the lower coil was ruined. One of the legs looked about to snap off.. sunken too.. When I tried to take a photo the weak leg snapped off and the coil is now lost to the carpet. The wire is seriously thin weak stuff. I couldn't even try to manipulate it, was like angel hair!!

Perpetua it is beautiful juice but yes seems to spell doom for coils, silica wicked ones with seemingly very cheap thin coil wires anyway! I am thoroughly disappointed in these new dual coils.. they're terrible. My old single coil EVOD heads were better. Lasted 3 weeks before dying and could be dry burned. These are just weak as hell.. much thinner wire and obviously too frail for the job if the legs are snapping (probably why the resistance goes up, lack of connection!!) And the silica packed to the brim around them seems to do nothing but gunk and clog them with no air for them to breathe!!

My old single coil EVOD heads were better. Honestly, I think you've got to a long way to beat these xantivenxm, especially if you get prr to wave his magic coiling wand over your used ones. I'm generally changing mine every couple days with some of the flavours I use, if that's any consolation to you.
