I'm not sure if there's a thread or not regarding this.
But how do you test if tc is working and how to do cotton burn test?
Just thinking it might help some newbies as well

If i post miss-info im sure someone will correct me, to conduct a cotton burn test build a Ni200 coil with a 2.5+mm inner diameter to facilitate an easy wick pull through. i tear off the top layer of a cotton pad and tear that into 1/2-1/3 to use depending on how thick and roll the into a wick to thread through the wick.
wick the coil by just pulling enough through so all the coil is in contact with cotton.
set the mod to say 230C and fire the mod
pull the wick through a bit more and examine the cotton that was within the coil, if burnt/singed drop the temp by 5-10C if not raise it by 5-10C and repeat with the wick pulled through a bit more so the coil is engaged with clean new cotton
repeat until you know the max temp that leaves your cotton as white at the end of a firing as it was before the heatup..
the major difficulty is damaging or misshaping the coil with the cotton being pulled in n out the nickel is way softer than the usual Ka wire used if so recoil and wick with less cotton
hope thats helpful..

Just make a coil in a dripper preferable, put some dry cotton in it, set the temp to 400 F and fire for 10 seconds and there should be no marks. DNA40s start to leave a very faint mark around 420F, don't sweet it if it is 20-30 degrees out just adjust to taste.

The time is very important you need to do 10 seconds at each temp to really see what they are doing IMO.

flavourtank There's a difference between TP working and TP working correctly. Below is a DNA40 scorch test I did in the very early days. It shows TP working but it doesn't take much to realise something's amiss. If for whatever reason you have a resistance reading different from the actual resistance, the temps indicated in the test will be meaningless. You need to have complete confidence in your atty and build before you take the readings as a datum.

That looks too hot to me @scooby, I don't get marks until 420 F for 10 secs, BTW SM Mini M class was returned for a refund as faulty so ignore that result.

Yep, it was for illustration purpose only VapingBad I did this in the first two very frustrating weeks of DNA40 ownership last Nov. Of course I found that the care needed to be taken and it was a whole new ball game compared with Kanthal and non TP The results were a combination of being a contact coil, poor build and an atty that wasn't suited to ni200/low resistance and so I experience swings in resistance that threw out the TP I Just mentioned it to point out that fact

It's because it's high temperatures. Most people without realising it do a mix anyway. If it's cold it's "Christ it's only 4 degrees!" - Centigrade When it's hot for a while it's "in the 80's" - Farenheit

I guess that most of us learnt from the vaping community and F is what they were using (as there was no choice then) so everyone stuck to.

I got my 1st DNA40 in Oct, 2nd in Dec & Kinxin in June none of these do Celsius. I have a DNA40 gold and a DNA200 arrive today and will use them in Fahrenheit, but for most things I am metric.

Your right it's what you get used to and after all it's only a number as the tests of all the various device scorch tests show I hot smoke and when looking for recipe inspiration all the Brisket, pork, rib etc info on the web is in F, that's the only time I'm none metric, I just got used to it.

I say reject the redundant scale chaps and chapeses, its the thin end of the wedge, adopt the now yanky scale and soon you will be happy buying tiny gallons (3.7l rather than 4.5) and supping short pints(16 oz) too.. by all means use the old scale if you need to but have the decency to use 'real money' when publishing results (tongue firmly in cheek...)
