Avast : low detection on viruses ,many false alarm positive , some old versions can damage windows OS , eating a lot of resources. Avast is still one of the programs "very recommended " by many ,unfortunately have to be "not recommended" at this time ...IMO

Very recommended by many magazine reviewers because it works, actually has a very good detection rate, Isn't a resource hog and never heard of any versions damaging the OS, highly recommended IMO.

Although I will add that ESET Endpoint is superb if you don't mind paying.

No problems here either, I only ever use Avast and have done so for around 10 years I've been using it for 4-5 years now after becoming disillusioned with AVG's ever increasing nagging. Since then I've never had any problems with any versions.

remember av s/w is only worth installing if you run regular scans, installing and relying on the light weight traffic monitors to catch everything is not gonna be worthwhile. consider the active monitors more like doorstaff in a club, they can spot some obvious threats but can also let a fair number thru too. run a weekly scan if you have av s/w installed if not you may as well uninstal it.
malwarebytes or superantispyware may be worthwhile downloading and running regularly too...

I have these two installed on the PC as well as Spybot S&D which are run regularly in conjunction with Avast. Also suggest that a run of Avast's boot-time scan is carried out regularly. It has been many years since I've had a virus, in fact it was in the days if Windows 3.1 that I last had any problem.
