Is there any difference in the performance of close wound (micro) and open wound coils, assuming same resistance?

In terms of flavour or vapor production i don't personally notice any real difference.
I like to use spaced coils in tanks, i just find the cotton wicks better that way, a touching coil can restrict the flow of juice a little, but even that only really becomes a problem when vaping at high watts i find.
I tend to use touching coils in my drippers because you're manually dumping juice on your coil and cotton anyway so the wick keeping up doesn't really become an issue. I tend to wind my coils on one of those Kuro style coiling tools now all the time it's just quick and easy so spacing them for a dripper would just be an extra unnecessary step.

Opinion is split jevans and comes down to personal choice. I use RTA's mostly and like Get Off My Cloud I find a spaced coil helps with wicking. I still use the odd microcoil, I have a pair in my Goliath as I found it easier due to small space.

I like to use both, I think with sub styl rba spaced coils have less chance of strangling the wick off particularly if useing high vg juices, in dual rta setups microcoil all the way as many are quite tight for space. For drippers anything goes but generally the beefier the build then I'm inclined to space them slightly ( barring parallel builds )

At the right height for decent airflow to get through and around the coil Decoy
Never have a problem with touching coils, always do them that way and always wicks a treat. The whole wicking thing is the trickier or can be the trickier side of things. Something you learn about as you go. The material, how tight or loose, what sort of length and so on.
I like my drippers around the 0.08 mark, that's around 200 watts with a fresh battery in a mech mod. My juice sits in the well at the bottom rather than on the top of the coil but it flows up the wick till it's dry right through.

Some interesting replies, do any of you find spaced coils last longer before "gunking" up?
