Am I right in thinking that the LT has protective circuitry that negates the need for protected batteries? I am sure I have read several times that the LT has its own protection but can't remember reading about the use of unprotected batteries and can't find the original info?
I only ask as I have recently bought protected batteries, which were advertised as 65mm long, but which don't actually fit the LT. (They do but I can only get about half a turn on the cap and therefore I won't use them) I know there is an o-ring available from FV, which is 2mm thick, but the gap I have is more than 2mm - probs 3 to 4mm!

Hi Giz
I read that the LT doesn't need protected batteries but I thought you were still best to get protected ones as they were safer when charging?

Of course its always best practice to use safe chemistry or protected batteries however the Lavatube has circuitry in it that include - Short Circuit/Atomizer Protection. The LAVATUBE can recognize an atomizer with too low of a resistance for the current voltage setting and will drop the voltage to 3.7v to protect both the battery and atomizer. If the atomizer is too low or shorted out it will shut off power to the device to protect the LAVATUBE from being damaged.
Reverse Battery Protection – Protects the device in case you put the battery in the device backwards
Battery Monitoring/Over-Discharge Protection – The device will monitor the battery voltage and automatically turn off when the battery is discharged, preventing damage to the battery by overly depleting it.so its my understanding you should be safe enough using unprotected... i do

It says peak voltage 4.2? The LT goes above that? Just when I think I've got the hang of things something else comes along to confuse me!

Don't ask me the technicalities of it Karma, I'm the shopping person. But they work perfectly over 4.2 volts, by some magic that I don't understand.

No, it's the circuitry in the LT that boosts the voltage beyond that supplied by the battery.
What it can't do is magic up more power than the battery can deliver, which is why it has odd behaviour with LR cartos and the like.
